    Low INR

I just tested as I do once a month on my INRatio. Range should be 2.5 - 3.5. My INR was as low as I've ever seen it 0.8 ! I wonder if the fact that the drop of blood wasn't big enough to cover the entire circle on the test strip could have affected the result. There was, however, enough...

7 years ago I entered ICU for 3 weeks

On 7/27/2004 I was fine until about 11 p.m. On 7/28/2004 my sister took me to the E.R. because I was suffering from a tightness in my chest for about 18 hours. Shortly thereafter they took me to ICU, unable to diagnose my burst Mitral Valve. On 8/17/2004 had surgery to replace Mitral Valve...

    Nausea and No Gallbladder

I have noticed that a number of us don't have gallbladders (sometimes incorrectly spelled "gall bladder"). I have noticed that in the past several months I often suffer from a very mild nausea. Do you? What about recommending a med that will not affect my inr?

    Stupid - Stupid - Stupid - Bleeding

As a mature adult, I thought that I was perfectly comfortable with being "different." Now, however, I'm very frustrated. After some personal issues at home the past few weeks, I was able to score a week of relaxation in Hawaii (where I'm sitting typing on my computer right now). It's...

    My 4th Bday is today!!!

i just wrote this post and it disappeared. On Aug. 17, 2004 I had my St.Jude MV installed after spending 3 weeks in ICU with drs. unable to diagnose my condition. A little less than 5 weeks later, having lost almost 50 lbs., unable to swallow, I was wheeled out to my friend's car where...

    Help me with QAS

Congratulations to me. I just took delivery of my very own (paid out of my own pocket because of my ridiculously high insurance deductible) INRatio from QAS. Yippee. I so look forward to being able to home test. Questions/Concerns: Service at QAS has been spotty at best. I don't have time...

    "ECT" - Grammar Correction

VERY SMALL TALK ? My grammatical pet peeves: I'm old enough now and have suffered enough in the past 3 years that I can put my foot down (gently). Please help me eradicate a couple of often misused abbreviations which pop up so often on various blogs including this, my favorite. Help make the...

Bruising - Ugly Black & Blues

I started taking 81 mg of asperin about 2 months ago (VR was 2 1/2 yrs. ago) and have suffered with frequent dark black & blue bruises on my arms & legs in these 2 months. Cause of bruise is usually unknown, but the last one occurred on both wrists from carrying firewood. One wrist cleared up...

    Anniversary - 2 yrs.

Today is a big day in my life & though I haven't been on the site much lately, I had to share. First I must thank all of the members who were (are) so supportive and gave me so much knowledge. I don't know where I would be today without your help. 730 days ago, today, I (barely) survived my...

Are you comfortable with your zipper?

I had a funny incident happen on Sunday. I was very, very, very sick immediately prior to & then for 3-4 months post-surgery (08/17/04). Since that time I consider myself fairly healthy and I pass for more-or-less , "normal." I mean, other than a friend asking, that age-old question, "how...

INR 2.46 - Should I worry about this?

I just got my lab results & wonder what to do. My INR has held very steady, Oct.: 2.55; Nov: ?; Dec: 3.22; January: 2.87; Yesterday: 2.46 I take 7.5 mg (x 7 days = 52.50 week) Coumadin. I haven't found any information on how to adjust my dosage to meet this small deficit. Funny thing, I have...

    Cough Relief

I've read through a number of threads about cough suppressants and yet I can't seem to find what I need. I have a dry cough and want to take something, but I'm a little fearful of either upsetting my INR or otherwise causing skipped beats or a racing heart. Sitting in front of me are a bottle...

cystic fibrosis -- It's not VR, but...

I want to relate a story about generosity, technology and specifically about my cousin's wife, here-to-fore known as "my cousin." My cousin works with special needs kids, in addiiton to attending graduate school in the evening. One of her students, "Sally" is a 12 year old girl with end-stage...

Salad for dinner -- effect on INR

Since I don't home test (yet), I'm going to my local lab in the a.m. for my monthly test. My INR has been very consistant in the past but I wonder if I should wait one more day before testing because I had a salad for dinner (about a cup of Romaine lettuce). Is my INR temporarily going to...

Greetings alll. I haven't posted in a long time, but I am lurking out here reading new posts most of the time. Lately my friends have been asking me how I'm doing & I tell them I feel as well as I did before getting sick which was before my surgery last year; I'm on a miracle drug; and I...

    Dental X-Rays

Simple question. I had a dental exam a couple of wks ago (& as I've done for many yrs., pre-medicated). I'm going in today for a full set of x-rays and when the office called yesterday to confirm, they told me to "pre-medicate." Any reason to take antibiotics prior to dental x-rays? Thanks

    INR Level & Coumadin Clinic

I'm confused (& a bit worried) about my INR. Before I found this forum and all the info on the correct INR for an artificial MV, my cardio wanted my INR in the range of 2.0 to 2.5, because I had a subdural hematoma when I was in the hosp and she was (is) worried about bleeding. Last Mon. I...

Approved meds (tylenol, heart burn med...)

I keep reading conflicting info and couldn't (successfully) research this. Is it okay to take Tylenol, without affecting my/our INR? What is a safe heartburn med? I'm afraid to take anything now for fear of messing up my INR which is only checked once a month. Advice would be appreciated.
