13 years ago yesterday, I received my St. Jude's mitral valve at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. (now Clarian Health), and I'm still ticking. I almost forgot about it since my husband is dealing with some major health issues himself, but I remembered and thought I would post today. I guess "it's" officially a teenager now so I'm expecting some sass and sullen behavior to start cropping up soon. ;)

So long as it doesn't do anything to get the police or court system involved, you should be ok. :biggrin2:

HAPPY VALVE DAY!!! Sherry......I'm so glad you are doing well and I think that's a testament to the St Judes.....makes me glad i am home to one also ........Warm Hugs....Michael

Thanks, all, for your good wishes. It seems such a dim memory now compared to what my dear husband is enduring. Any prayers and good thoughts are much appreciated.

Sending prayers and best wishes for your husband. Sorry he's going through whatever he's going through.

I like to "be like Mike" so also got a St. Judes. And yep, mine's ticking along too - those things may be noisy, but they seem to work ;) Thanks for posting - gives us newborns hope we too will be teenagers someday. And I'm even hoping for young adult-hood, followed by adult-hood and even middle age (again)!

Here's wishing you a happy teenage valve anniversary..!! Doesn't seem like 13 years does it.. Sherry and I go back a long time and she's one brave gal. Right now she's the best advocate her husband could possibly have as she researches on a daily basis and is making sure he gets the newest and best treatments that are available out there. They are a very dedicated, young couple who is going through a really, really rough patch, but they'll make it through this too. One day at a time sweet Jesus..

Dear Sherry,
Happy 13th to you, sorry I missed this but havn't been here lately.
We do go back aways, it seems like yesterday.
I don't know what your husband is going through but I want to wish you both well.
At least he is lucky enough to have you supporting him.
Rich

Thanks to all

Thanks to all

Thanks to all of you for your good wishes. I don't always get on this forum now as it seems most of my free time is spent researching my husband's condition now, but I do gravitate back every now and then. Janie and I are two of the original members, going all the way back to the e-mail days. She and I and a few others have actually become good friends, traveling together, etc, and she is one sweet Southern gal. :) Rich is a dear cyber friend, as he has been on here for many years too. All of you newbies have such a repository of information here that can help you either before the surgery or in those tenuous days following. The internet is such an amazing place when one faces health issues. It empowers you to make informed choices and to be able to ask your doctor about new techniques and experimental treatments, as may be the case with my husband. We're trying a conservative approach first (under the guidance of a specialist at IU Med) and then may end up traveling if it doesn't work. If any of you know much about Sloan-Kettering, could you message me privately and let me know of your experiences? Thanks so much.

Seven years left on my warranty

Today is the 43rd anniversary of my valve....8/16/1967-8/16/2010. My surgeons told me that the valve was designe to last 50 years.....so far, so good. I wonder what happens after 50 years....:confused2:......oh well, I'll cross that bridge when I get there:biggrin2:

whoops, I seldom start new threads. I meant this to be "new", but as usual I screwed it up......but I am old. Somebody tell me how to put it where it belongs.

Sherry, I did not mean to "stomp" on your thread. I understand that I can't delete my mistake....sorry

43 years - Fantastic :) You need to start your own thread for that Dick! -- Ah my post crossed your edit... Click the blue box at the top left, New Thread or something like that, and be sure and put your title in.

And Sherry, hoping your husband's issues get better and also that your valve continues doing very well; Best wishes :)
