    Seven years today

Seven years ago I had my valve replacement. Never looked back and still looking forward. I'm still running marathons and other races, biking, swimming and gym workouts. Feeling very blessed and thankful.

    First Run!!!

Today was another new begining for me. It is my 75th birthday and I ran for the first time since my pacemaker inplant five weeks ago. I have been power walking since two days post the inplant and it did a lot in helping me keep in somewhat of a decent condition. My effort today was six miles...

    My 2013 Challenge

New Years day will be my 34th running anniversary. I was six weeks short of turning 41; yep I’m going to be 75 in February. I started running because I was an overweight smoker with a family history of heart problems. The smoking stopped, the weight went down but the family history of heart...

    Running with a pacemaker

For the past couple years two different cardiologist told me I need a pacemaker, primarily because I am old (74 now) and I have a slow HR. My resting HR for more than the last 25 years has been 40. A couple weeks ago I woke to a HR of 31 and it kind of got my attention. I called my...

    Sixth Replacement Anniversary

I'm a little ashamed that I haven't posted here in quite a while. I do check in on a regular basis however and will do my best to start following again. This past Friday, Oct 5, was the 6th anniversary of my aortic valve replacement. I celebrated by running my 57th marathon in my favorite...

    Pacemakers?

Naive question here for all you athletes. Does anyone have a pacemaker? Had an appointment with my card yesterday and he is recommending one for me. I have an unusually low resting HR (38-40). My EKG showed a lack of p-waves which could lead to a stroke. Not happy to hear the news. Need a...

    One Mile Timed run

Our local running club is hosting an event in August and another club loaned us their timing system. To learn to use it our president thought it would be fun to do a timed mile run. So at 5:00AM most of us went for our Sat AM swim (part of our August event) then headed to the track. Based on...

San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon

Okay, I procrastinated enough. FIrst a weekend rundown. I had a great time overall. I love spending time with my daughter, son-in-law and their two boys and of course my friend Ron. They are all fun to be around. We arrived in San Diego around noon on Saturday, went straight to the Expo. The...

    Local 5 & 10K

Yesterday was the annual Kingman Hospice race. I've done this the last 4 or 5 years. Tough course in that it is out and back...well really up and down. The toughest part is the first starting at 3300 and going up to 3550 in 1.3 miles. The rest for the 10k continues up to 3650. The fun part is...

    Kodi at Havasu Half

Yesterday was the 3rd annual local half marathon. The race director puts on a class event for a community of 45,000. Runners from around the US and even one from Australia this year. I’m training for a June marathon and this was almost perfect timing for testing the waters, only the test...

    Mel's St. Paddy 10K

Almost perfect race day weather, except for a little more than a slight breeze, which actually felt good. Left my house a little early and parked about a mile away from the start to make sure I got a decent warm up in. I tend to not warm up enough when I park near the start. This worked out...

    Haloween 5K

We had a local first time Haloween 5K this morning. Weather was almost perfect at about 55º at the 8:00AM start. The course is a stinker. It starts at 1000 ft drops to 820 over the first 1.2 miles, climbs to 900 over the nest .2 miles then drops to 850 at the turnaround. Going back up is not...

    Marathon #54

Today is the third anniversary for my valve replacement. Things are looking good. To celebrate I ran my 54th marathon on Saturday. Time was slowest ever, not because of the valve but because of getting older (71) and lack of decent training. My time was 5:24:57. :)

    Debbie, Where are you?

What ever happened to Debbie. She was posting regularly and updating us on her biking and some events she did. I haven't seen a post from her in quite a while. Anyone know where she is?

    New Challenge---race report

Ragnar Relay I?m not quite sure where to start on this report. I had several issues going into this event and a few more once I got there. First, still recovering from the recurrence of plantar fasciitis, I shouldn?t have run. Second, because of the PF, I didn?t run for over four weeks. My...

    New challenge

I'm expanding my horizons soon. On Friday starting at 7:40, I'll be particpating in a 12 person 180 mile relay. It starts in Logan, UT and ends in Park City, UT. I'm the first runner. Each runner runs three legs of varying distances. Mine are 5.1, 8.5 and 4.8. I'm running with eleven...

    Kingman 5K & 10K

This is the fourth time I've run this stinking course. It is said we become wiser with age but either I haven't reached that age yet or it's not true. If I were wiser, I'd run the 5K instead off the 10K. It's 3.1 miles up and 3.1 miles down. My first mile was okay but the second mile kicked my...

    Lake Havasu Half Marathon

Ran this one yesterday. I wasn't quite as satisfied as I should have been, thought I should have been closer to 2:20 but lack of the longer distances training runs takes its toll. Last weeks course was flat but on gravel then hard packed sand, this was all on pavement but there were several...

    Laughlin 1/2 marathon

I ran a 1/2 marathon this morning. This is the longest run I've done since my heel fracture in December. Not my favorite type of course, loose gravel road and hard packed sand; I like asphalt. The good thing about the course it ran along the Colorado River and was flat except for one very...
