Naive question here for all you athletes. Does anyone have a pacemaker?
Had an appointment with my card yesterday and he is recommending one for me. I have an unusually low resting HR (38-40). My EKG showed a lack of p-waves which could lead to a stroke. Not happy to hear the news. Need a second opinion and some feedback from others.

Kodi, say what!???? I would place your low HR on your excellent training and physical health....but if the EKG (p-waves) show a problem, then you may need a pacemaker. There are a number of cardiac athlestes with a PM. It will be important to get a model that will allow you to run your usual pace, and get the leads placed so that they do not get irritated (re: break) from your workouts.

Hubby has pacemaker

Hi Kodi. My husband who swims with the Masters and has done some competitive swimming just got a pacemaker three months ago after hitting the floor with his face and ribs!!!! He has known that he has bradycardia for a few years, but in the last couple of years, he was feeling light headed, etc. In any case, he is back to swimming, and he has not had any symptoms since he has had the pacemaker. He learned when he went for a two-month check that he is pacing only 2% of the time, but that 2% makes a difference.

He is a forum for pacemakers that someone on this site gave me:

Thanks all of you. I looked at both the suggested sights and wow!, what a lot of information.....heck, who needs a doctor anyway. My PCP was a little perplexed with the EKG and didn't quite agree with the card. I am scheduling a second opinion with another card, then will go from there. In the meantime, life will go on as normal.
