They'll get on the pain control just as soon as they get his BP up a tad. It's going to take a bit, but now, tell me. Did I not tell you he'd be fine?

Love ya all!

Glad the tube is out. The pain increases some when he starts to breathe
for himself and uses these muscles. I had a bp of 70/40 for awhile,it should
go up after he gets some fluids, etc. Wishing you all the best-Dina

Another thing, he may appear to be alert and oriented, but believe me, is zoned out of his mind. He's never going to remember the pain he's in at the moment. ;)

Absolutely true.

It sounds like he's doing well so far. Good news!

well i am at my paretns on this slow slow slow PC UGH - so, we are here, my mom, my brother and me. Dad is in great care tonight, and he even laughed when we lat saw him before we left. He looks a bit tired and I told him I dont like him witthout his teeth and he made a scary face at me...we laughed and he held the pillow. I pray for a good night and I know he will be OK. I got a private message from a member about my dad and his sleep apena, and they said he needs to use the CPAP asap. It scares me , they know he has this problem at the ICU and everything is fine. Can this cause his recovery tp be bad? If he didnt have the CPAP? Maybe I am thinkig too far ahread and I am so tired running on empty here. Keep on praying and thank you.

It sounds like your Dad will bounce back soon enough, and he probably won't remember today's adventure.
I have no recollection of my OHS day, but my poor hubby remembers it very well. ;)

The ICU will be monitoring every little thing that happens with your dad. They will notice the sleep apnea, I am sure. Let them handle things. The Heart ICU is the best part of heart surgery hospitals, where they have their best nurses and techs. Your dad will be watched over like a hawk while he is in the ICU. He'll have his surgeon and the PAs and/or NP coming and going frequently.

morning. Dad had a good night, we called at 5am and at 830 am and we are heading up there in about 90 minutes. They said they are getting him out of the bed today to sit up. AND if things are good he will go to the normal floor today and he will have his own room on the cardiac floor, all heart pateients get their own rooms after opehn heart surgery. the nurse last night gave my dad a bed bath. i want to be honest seeing him yesterday like this was so hard but we got through it. my husband had to go home last nihgt but will be coming down every night to see him. i thought we were all close before this has brought us even closer. this board has helped so much, nancy ross, phylis, mary and everytone, thank you so much m. dont mind my spelling this PC stinks! i will post againl later today with an update. keep on prayin! JoJo

dad ate breakfast and lunch and he is sitting in a chair. yes still pain using pillow to cough and using 2 breathing thingies for one of his lungs still slightly collasped. they are taking the line out of his neck right now. still in icu but getting a room tonight.

He's going to be in pain for a good while yet. No sense worrying about it. The first couple days suck, but after that, it's more soreness then anything. I bet he's up walking yet today.

Don't tell him any really funny jokes!

It sounds like he's doing very well. I happy for you all!

yes still pain using pillow to cough

and he will be for a long time to come - maybe up to 3 months; as time goes on, you need it for less and less. towards the end though, you only need it for coughing and sneezing, and after a while, when I stopped needing it for every little thing, I used to always leave mine in another room, and have to grab the nearest available thing, like a towel, or a rolled up coat even, or whatever was available!
