If a Patient called in to a Doctor's Office with complaints of
Abdominal Pain, Chills for 1 hour, followed by a rising Temperture,
eventually reaching 101+,

What conditions might you suspect?

What tests would you think should be ordered?

With the limited info, I'd suspect Appendicitis depending on where the pain is located and if in that area, order a CBC to check white cell count.

appendicitis. order tests for infection. if appendix is infected, it would show up. failing that, it could be the flu.

sounds like an infection of some sort, to me.

That's a GREAT Chart John !

(and the correct diagnosis does appear on that chart)...

The initial response was an Rx for Tama Flu
and "don't come in"....

The patient's temp and 'discomfort' varied over time but seemed to be subsiding 2 days later.

Concern over the lack of correlation between those symptoms resulted a call to the on-call Doc who suggested 'checking it out at the ER'....

ER Doc said "Diverticulitis" after X-Ray and CT scan
...and that the patient got there "just in time" to avoid surgery to remove part of the colon... Close Call !

Appendacitis also appears on the chart and the diagnostic tests would be the same so either cause would have lead to a proper diagnosis. Precious time was lost by the first guess...
