Hello VR friends! It has been almost NINE months since my Ross Procedure...wow, I can't believe it. I am truly near 100%, but for the chronic loose cough I developed at about month 1 1/2. My surgeon, cardiologist, and primary physician attributed it to a couple of things: SURGERY and allergins. I live in Central Texas. I had a couple of cases of bronchitis and a couple of cases of strep. As you can imagine, I took a miriad of antibiotics and steroids. I was placed on inhalers and Zyrtec.
I finally grew tired of taking so many meds and quit everything minus my required BP and heart rate meds.
With a clean system, I went to an allergist. He performed the routine tests and I did react to several "Texas" allergins, molds, etc...That said, none of them were in season, yet my loose cough persisted. He had me do a CT scan and they found a deeply impacted sinus infection: more antibiotics and steroids.
The loose cough remains! When I say loose I mean productive.
My allergist has all but given up, recommending I see a pulminary specialist.

Before I schedule, I would like to know if there are others that have experienced this? I am back to taking Zyrtec.

A quick note: I am running 40 minutes per day on the treadmill, and am more active than ever!!!!!
But this cough is really getting on my last nerve.

Glad to be back on the site.

I agree that a pulmonoligist is next. I, too, have a cough but I already know I have had chronic bronchitis for years and years. I am seeing a local dr at this point but it might lead to a pulmonoligist and I believe it should. Will you keep us in the loop. Wishing you all the best.

Sometimes bp meds can cause coughs and we have discussed this from time to time in VR. don't know if the word 'cough' would bring up anything in the search area or not. Others might be along soon with their cough comments as I am sure there are some who have coughs. I, too, would love to hear about them. Blessins.......

Dont know if you are on an ACE inhibitor or not for your blood presure. This type of medication can cause a dry nagging cough in about 10% of the patients that take them. ACE inhibitor include lisinopril, accupril and a host of others

I've had a cough for awhile on and off. My cardio told me it was probably due to the linsinopril. He said about 20 percent of those taking it get a cough.

fyi...I was onLisinopril for 4-5 years up until my surgery last Friday to decrease my blood pressure - which it did. I remember when I started Lisinopril, I did have a dry cough for about the first week I was on the medication. Fortunately, it was never a wet cough for me and just completely went away after that first week.

Although, I do have a dry cough that I've been battling now for the past 2 days. This thread reminded me of that and I am now hoping hoping my dry cough is due to me starting a new med Lopressor.

My husband developed a croaky voice about the time he had his MV repair. I commented on it at the time, but he insisted he already had it. (NOT!) It's still there 2+ years post-op. (No, he's not a smoker.)

I've gotten several bouts of bronchitis a year since 1994 or '95. I attribute it to flying -- I fly about 12-15 times a year. My family doctor suggested I use the generic form of Flonase, and it seems to have helped me avoid bronchitis. Two bouts have turned into pneumonia, in October 1995 and in March 2000 or 2001.

I am 9 weeks post op and have had a productive cough for most of the time. Surgeon and cardio said it was just the lungs getting rid of junk accumulated during surgery. About a week ago I could not take it anymore and went to see my PCP, he listened to my chest and let me breathe into his spirometer like thing connected to his computer. It indicated that my lung capacity was 500ml down on the pre-op values, suggesting some infection, and prescibed antibiotics. Have been taking them for a few days now and I think it is working at last! Did not cough at all last night! I know how annoying this cough can be and I hope you get it sorted out soon.

The lisinopril cough is very different, it is dry and non-productive. I also developed the so-called ACE inhibitor cough for a month or so when I went onto lisinipril about 10 years ago., still on it to this day That was very much a dry cough for a period every morning, went away by lunchtime. I personally do not think that the wet cough is due to lisinipril.

I am 9 weeks post surgery and have developed a cough, I am taking Warfarin and Ferusemide, I was on statins up to 2 days ago but had to come off these as I was crippled by aching limbs and back.
I was on Lisinopril in September 2009 and was allergic to it to such an extent I was hospitalised.
