Hi, everyone! This is actually Jeri's daughter, Tara. She wanted me to post and let everyone know how she is. She just had surgery on Wednesday and is recovering well. The doctor tried to repair her valve but ended up replacing it with a bio-valve. He also repaired her aoritic aneurysm. So far, she is pretty tired and nauseous (probably from the anesthesia). She is in some pain. Unfortunately, she has a pretty weak stomach so she doesn't tolerate pain meds very well. Otherwise, though, she is doing pretty well. Once she feels up to it, she will be back. In the meantime, I'll be checking on here for her, so please post with any questions or messages.

Thanks!
Tara

Glad to hear the report, Tara. And glad she's got you there with her! We'll look forward to hearing from her when it's the right time for that. Not to rush, this is recovery time!

I'm glad to hear her surgery went well. These first few days for me were the worst. Tell her to hang in there, it will get better.

Thanks for the update, Tara; hoping your mother's recovery goes very well :)

Tara, thanks for the update. Give my best to your mom. Tell her to take it slow since it is not everyday that you get the opporutnity to be run over by a Sherman Tank and talk about it. Tell her to sleep, eat (as tolerated) and breathe deeply. Now Tara don't forget to take care of yourself also. This can be a trying time for family also, so keep yourself rested and fed.

Hi! This is Tara, again. Mom (Jeri) is coming along. She thinks Chris is right about the Sherman Tank analogy. She is exhausted! Even so, she is walking a bit and if finally able to eat a bit more. The nausea has been really tough. Things are moving along. She and I appreciate all your messages and she will be in touch soon. Thanks again!

Hi! This is Tara again. Mom (Jeri) wanted me to share a quick update. She went into a-fib and now she is sitting with a amidarone drip. Two hours later she converted... for now, anyway. Hopefully it will stay that way! She is hanging in there. Before all of this, the doctor was thinking of sending her home tomorrow, which probably was too soon to begin with. Now, we are probably looking at Mon or Tuesday. Anyway, be well everyone.

Hello!
I'm 3 weeks & 1/2 out from my surgery. Tell your mom ONE day at a time. There will good days, bad days & somewhat better days. As she goes on & when it seem s she's back to square 1,
have her think of how much better it is from last week, etc.
Happy Blessed Easter!!! to all!!!

Jeri and Tara,

I think you will find a relatively consistent theme in replies -- most of us noted a dramatic increase in the rate of recovery and in how much more "involved" in life we feel at about 4 weeks after surgery. That said, I would advise Jeri that for those first 4 weeks concentrate on just doing the small things the doctors tell us to do (breathing exercises, naps, short walks then longer walks) and staying healthy. After about 4 weeks you will be surprised that you just feel better -- much more like yourself, and as I described it in another post, you will realize that life is once more a participation event, not a spectator event.

Hang in there - it really does get better.

Hi! This is Tara again. Thanks for the encouraging posts. Mom was converted yesterday, but they switched off her IV of amiodarone (with oral) last night and the afib started back up again at 5:30am. If she isn't converted by morning, we are probably looking at cardioconversion. Not a biggie, but she isn't excited about anesthesia. Fingers crossed!
