sorry njean, and especially bina who was waiting with 'baited' breath, no squattie
pictures. thought i'd get some great shots in laos, but laos wasn't the laos i
was expecting. the cheap hotels all had 'sitties,' along with ac and cable tv with
bbc and hbo and even the australia channel.
there was the one overpriced 'barn' i slept in (overpriced at $3/nite), but that was in
a village in the middle of nowhere, and the squattie in the outbuilding with the shower
bucket was very clean.
i did get a shot a a kid pooping in the street if you're interested, but don't expect i'll
be posting that one for public consumption. anyway, pics will have to wait a week or
so until i can get an apartment and buy a laptop.
haven't decided yet it i'll 'go native' and get a regular room inside the moat in the old
city, or go for the fully furnished serviced apartment/condominium just outside next
door to the heart hospital.
and now i'm off to shop for a doctor to get this damn foot neuroma taken care of.
and with any luck i can recover in time to train for the december marathon.

building, conveniently located. next door to a real supermarket, ten minute walk
to the muni stadium for running. has ac and cable with 60 channels and wifi and
a western toidy. loads of food vendors just outside, and short walk to the old towne.
classes going well enough, certainly much easier than chinese.
on the bike yesterday, wish i'd had my camera with me.....passed what i thought
was a twelve-year old on a tiny folding bike. nope, was a midget, wearing an
"8-ball" helmet, and flying a nazi swastika flag. strange.
tomorrow is a holiday, queen's birthday. should be some wild parties downtown.
this weekend will be cycling 25 km south of town to a local village to see the
water buffallo and used motorcycle market.
building, conveniently located. next door to a real supermarket, ten minute walk

welllll.....the thais add a particle at the end of each sentence, which
cannot be translated. kinda like canuckians always adding 'eh' at the end.
for wimmin, they add "ka"
for menfolk, they add "krap"
so all the bitter old foreign men trying to learn thai have an easy time,
not having to add a new ending, just continue saying "crap" every
time they open their mouths.
Maybe the Thai language thing won't work out for me.....I would be considered too manly.
