Yes, it is official. I have been talking with a company out of Mackay, QLD, for about six months regarding an opportunity with their company. At first I wasn't thinking that it would go anywhere, but after some more in depth discussions it seemed like it might be a good opportunity. My wife and I finally went over to visit around the end of January, and we very much liked what we saw. After this we had a few weeks of nailing down the important information and came to an agreement. The only tricky part was figuring out how the private health insurance and visa process might be affected by my mechanical valve; I had one person tell me that I would never have coverage for the pre-existing condition, and another tell me that I would never gain permanent residency. After some research and a lot of calling around, it turns out that the insurance is actually covered after a 12 month waiting period with many companies (Bupa is who we ended up with) and the visa process can be overcome with some homework and record keeping.

Now i just need to do some research on anti-coagulation treatment in Australia, and see what I need to do to transfer any prescriptions for a seamless transition. I am going to be in Australia by May 1st, so have a lot of selling to do in the States, as well. Anyone need a very slightly used camaro? Turns out that to drive it there I would have to invest another $37K to convert it to right hand drive... Not quite worth it! Anyway, thought I would pass along the news.

I saw this thread title and thought for sure that you were posting some kind of joke....It appears that you have
pretty much won the lottery with this opportunity.

We have several Aussie members here who have bought and test with the Coaguchek XS, and it is easily bought for
around $500-700. No problem there.

And regarding that "slightly used" Camaro....Well, I could offer it a nice home. :)

As soon as I read the title of this thread I thought of the Camero but never considered the conversion i too can offer a good Canadian home with socialised medicine and loving mechanics with wax built to make 'er shine

You find room in your suitcase/boxes for me and I'll fine a perfect home for your Chevy, I don't have any holes in my roof lol
Glad that your hard work in finding this job is going to pay off.

Congrats, I'm jealous, but happy for you.

Congratulations Jason, what a great oppotunity! My wife and I visited the Mackay area a few years back and thought it was a wonderful place.

Good news, I asked my HR benefits manager about the Coaguchek, and she says that since it is durable medical equipment it is mine to take with me. Now I just need to buy some extra strips. I generally get mine through the Alere folks, but they send them in bunches of six. I see they are available online for 48, which should last me a good long time!

We are very excited to be heading down under. Today we have a winter storm warning, and have already got about 6 inches of good, heavy snowflakes. It is easy to have a smile on your face when you are shoveling some of the last snow you will see in a while. Besides, I needed my exercise for the day. We rented a storage unit yesterday and started uncluttering and un-personalizing the house so that it will show better. I need to sell fairly quickly, as the housing costs in Mackay are quite a bit higher than I am used to. Can't really afford to be sitting on a house here and there, so will probably end up selling slightly under market here. Oh well... Lots of stuff to get rid of!

Speaking of the camaro, I have already had several people ask if I am wanting to sell it. Unfortunately, I will probably find a new home for it around town here, so I don't need to take a road trip to canada. Darnit... Thanks for the offer though, everyone!

Well, shoot ... I was going to ask what year and how much?!

Congratulations ... sounds like a great opportunity!
