On and off for about 2 months I've had bouts of dizziness. I've told my cardio about it, he seemed to think it was related to my increased blood pressure, so, he doubled my altace and put me on coreg c.r. My blood pressure has gotten better, but the dizziness seems to be getting worse. Just sitting and watching tv, it comes over me in waves. While driving, I've had to pull over until it passes. The sensation occurs when I inhale, I'm a little short of breath and my vision is somewhat blurred. Nothing in particular seems to bring it on. Lying down makes it go away. I told my family doc about it and he wanted to put me on a medicine for vertigo. I declined, because I already take so much, however I'm beginning to reconsider. It just sort of scares me because I had these "spells" right before my first surgery and haven't had them since until recently. Can anyone relate or have any insight?? I have my 3 month checkup with my cardio next week, so this is one of the concerns I plan to discuss with him. I just thought I'd ask you all to give me your views, it may help me when talking about this with my dr. Thank you soo much!!

Does it seem like your world is spinning?

I get periodic vertigo. Seems to be when my allergies are acting up and my sinus are sensitive due to that.

Do you get dizzy and then short of breath? If so, it may be due to a rush of adrenaline.

Just some thoughts if the drs aren't connecting it to heart issues.

Dizzy

Hi
I had a similar problem with dizziness and one bad episode of vertigo a few months ago but haven't had a problem lately. Only once in a great while I feel a small spurt of dizziness that goes away.
If you read the prescriptions you are taking, they may say that they cause dizziness. I had been taking a diuretic that seemed to be a cause but now take a different one.
Always consult your doctor about this.

I had bouts of dizzyness after surgery. They could come on for no reason when watching tv or usually when i stood up from a sitting position...however i did get one while walking around the shops and had to lie down and drink water to recover.

It was fixed by the cardio changing my beta blocker from (something beginning with A? sorry cant remember) to Bicor.

He said different Beta blockers work differently in different people, some cross the blood/brain barrier easier in some than others.

Hope this helps with your appointment discussions.

Glad you're going to check it with your doc. Dizziness can be related to a great many things. I had bouts long before my OHS, and docs figured it was an inner-ear balance problem. I had problems just sitting in church or meetings without getting dizzy. Still have habit of sitting in seat close to exit just in case.

A few months before my OHS, I had a case alarming enough to send me to the ER. Thought sure it was heart-related, but no the best they could figure was still inner-ear.

I think it sometimes can be made worse by stressing out about it. Now I have adjusted and just rebalance my equilibrium and try to relax when I feel a spell coming in. Of course, virtually all our many meds seem to say "may cause dizziness."

But dizziness certainly can be heart-related, so you certainly should talk to your doc about it.

I've had minor bouts of dizziness for several years but when they got to the point that I need to hold onto something to keep from falling down my Cardiologist had me wear a heart monitor. The monitor revealed that I had I think it was class II heartblock and required that I get a pacemaker. The dizziness has gone away after getting the pacemaker. Don't want to worry you but want you to know that there could be another reason than just vertigo.

Thanks all

Thanks all

For your thoughts and insights. I've written the ideas and will have them in hand while at my Dr. appt. next week. Karlynn, possible allergies could be the culprit, I did have that episode in Hawaii that sent me to the ER for an allergic reaction to shell fish. Back home, I went to an allergist and he tested me for everything under the sun and everything came back negative, so who knows? Viki, vertigo would also be a possibility, I'll see what my cardio thinks about adding yet another med. Roboheart, RobHol, and Wayne, all the meds that I am pressently on - especially the altace could be causing my dizziness. And dr. did double my dosage. I called my pharmacist yesterday, but could only talk with one of his techs. She couldn't answer my questions so the pharmacist is supposed to return my call this a.m. Wayne- I'm sorry to hear that your dizziness resulted in having to have a pacemaker implanted. I hope your pacemaker has given you relief from your symptoms. I also will ask my dr. about wearing a monitor to see what it might reveal. Anyway, thank you all for your responses. Now I feel "armed and ready" to bring all these insights to my cardio next week. Thank you all so much!!

Oops!

Oops!

Correction to the above pose. Not Wayne, but Nick--(me and my "pumphead") Thanks Nick for your information about pacemakers. I always thought pacemakers regulated your heartbeat, I wasn't aware that they would relieve other heart related symptoms - blockages in particular. Again, I apologize Nick for referring you to Wayne - (my bad)!!

What follows is a copy of my Feb 12, 2005 post:

I had feelings of lightheadedness during weeks 6 to 12 post surgery. I felt so bad one day that I went to emergency during the seventh week. They reported all tests were within norms. My doctor would tinker with meds but I got no relief.

Also I had several episodes of the room spinning violently. I was wearing a 24 hour Heart monitor during the worse episode but there were no blips on my record.

Gradually it went away.

Today I am fine except for an occasional ocular migraine.

Hope your condition clears up soon.

Blessed,

No problem on the mix up... I been called worse things :D

For clarification heart block is a blockage of the electrical signals that allow all the sections of your heart to beat and in sync with one another. My heart rate would drop to about 40 bpm and that was what cased the dizziness.

As has been said, MANY things can cause Dizzyness.

It is a not uncommon side effect of several Heart Mediations.

Have you had an "inner ear" evaluation by an Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist? If not, that may be called for. Sinus blockages can contribute to those issues. Also Too Much Fluid Retention, or possibly Too Little.

Hope you Docs can sort it out and come up with a solution for you.
