My husband, 9yo daughter and I are planning a trip to the States in March next year. We'll fly into LA, head to Disneyland for a few nights, a couple in LA, drive to San Fran, then to Yosemite and the Grand Canyon, then back to LA.
Any suggestions of where we should go or stay VERY welcome!
It'll be just over a year since my surgery when we get there so what a great way to celebrate!:)

Sounds like a great trip, looking at the travel packages is very confussing I find. I was there 30 years ago and would love to go back.
I am sure thier are many on here from the area that can give you great ideas, i might steal some of them myself.

Have Fun, the exchange rate will probably work well in your favour.

I hope you have a wonderful time while in the US, Allison!

The Grand Canyon is magnificent! I've never been to Yosemite, but it's on my bucket list!

Have a great time! :)

Living on the west coast most of my life and I can say they are all well worth seeing - what a great trip! March can be cool - even snowy in the Grand Canyon and Yosemite average high 10c, low -3c, so be prepared. I live near Disneyland, and March is a nice that time of year, though you could see some rain. Spring school breaks can make it busy as well, so planning ahead is a must. The websites ShezaGirlie gives above should be a good help for the National Parks, There are other options at both parks if the big lodges don't work out as well. I go to Disneyland four times a year (can you tell I like the place?). For Disneyland, try www.mousesavers.com -- it's a good resource for the many options in and around Disneyland. Seeing Disneyland and the park next door, Disney's California Adventure (worth the time), can take a number of days by themselves. If you have a lot of time, Universal Studios can be fun, with the backlot tour and wild rides (if you are into those things). There are also studio tours -- Hey, you're not far from Hollywood! -- just found this link that may be useful: http://www.studioaudiences.com/. So much to do in California, this is just a few.

Yosemite in March is great month to visit the park. I live and work just outside the park and it is one of my favorite times of the year. But you need to ready for any type of weather. You can have sun, rain, wind or snow or all of them. Be prepared. You will see the park in all it's glory. The waterfalls are just to flow and there might be snow to play on. There is a downside to March is that the high county and other areas are closed unless you can cross county ski.

If you are looking for a place to stay, look at Mariposa, Yosemite West or Fish Camp. They have some good hotels or bed and breakfast’s to stay in. If you want to stay in the park, try to make your reservations right now it can be hard to get. http://www.mariposachamber.org , http://www.homeofyosemite.com/

You might check with your doctor about altitude. You can be at 1200 m to 1800m or more when your in the park.

Enjoy you trip.

Oh how COOL!

Depending on your time frame, try parts of Route 66....not that I'm biased ;).

Hi, Allison, I too would say that Mariposa for the giant seqouia

and the Yosemite valley should be high on your list. The crisp clean fragrance of the great trees will stay with you.

Also, to the north is Crater Lake National Park.

While in Arizona, the Meteor Crater near Winslow is another striking thing to see if you will pardon the pun.

If you want to make a larger loop to the north, you could do no better than visit Yellow Stone.

I hope you have a great time.

I agree, if you want to stay IN the Grand Canyon, El Tovar is the only lodge. It's very booked ahead of time so don't delay on that one. I did a helicopter trip over the Grand Canyon for my 40th... AMAZING!

The Meteor Crater is great too. I lived in Flagstaff (near there) for two years and Sedona, Az for 5 years. There is NO way you should go to the Grand Canyon and not see Sedona. Please Please trust me on this one.
