Hi All.
Curious to get your feedback on this one. I pulled/strained/tore/who knows a muscle in my hamstring area back in late Jan. I had a nice sized hematoma/bleed. By mid-Feb. the hematoma disappeared and things looked to be getting better. A couple of days later with little warning, I got another hematoma in the same area accompanied by the pain. This time I went to the doctor and the doc sent me to an ortho specialist who sent me to physical therapy. A month later, I have gotten rid of the hematoma and things are going pretty nicely. The physical therapy people have helped me to rehab the injury without more bleeds. My INR never was really that high (3.5 max), so I was shocked by all of the hematomas. I'm also still not at 100% (maybe 75% of hte flexibility I once had). Prior to the injury in Jan. I was in what I would consider to be awesome shape for me. However, the two months have taken a toll and I now have to try to get myself back to where I was. I generally have been nonchalant about the whole Coumadin thing. This is the first real ill effect of the drug that I have experienced. Anyone else run into this? Not a fun experience.

Hi T.

Never experienced the bleed, but then I was only on Coumadin for a few months after my AVR. I have had plenty of pulled muscle experiecnes though and, now that you have mentioned yours, I can see how it would be all the more important to be careful to prevent them if on ACT. I can't comment on the bleed, but I can remind you to always warm up your muscles before you stretch them. I remember some years ago after being about 90% recovered from a hamstring pull (we're talking several months), stretching with some but not enough warm-up and reinjuring it. It took another few months for it to finally heal.

Thanks for the replies.

Lyn, I had been doing P90x and Insanity and have been off of it for months. Very depressing.

Jeff, agreed on the 90% healed angle. Back in Feb. I was almost back and then I somehow reinjured. What a mess. I've never seen an injury like this before and hope I never see one again.

Yeah, I did it to my calf a couple years ago running track. It turned into the great grape leg from the knee down. It took about 2 months to heal.
