I do hope that you call your doctor first thing tomorrow morning Deb because this amount of bruising does not seem normal to me. I tend to bruise very easily too , like Crystal, but not from just holding a pot handle or something as trivial as that. So please check it out & let us know.

Talk to you soon & you're in my prayers! :)

Stupid,stupid,stupid,stupid

Stupid,stupid,stupid,stupid

k i really don't wanna post what i've done to myself:(

Here goes though,i have a german chamomile oil 100%
Chamomile lotion 100% i am,was using 10 drops oil in
my bath water.
I don't have it anymore cus i had to think after doc felt i
was eating something or using something new, after blood
work i thought of the oil and lotion, doc made me go get it.
He threw it away in the garbage.
It was causing me to bleed and upon examing me he was sure
i was doing something to cause the bleeding,LIKE WHAT?? inr
was normal 3.3 ,but he said i was bleeding.
Did platelet tests to,but was not able to find anything out tonight.
Well it's not a percription drug i wouldn't have thought:confused:
a minute to use them.
Been using it about a week little over,it was a gift from christmas
the oil smells so appley.....oh well:(:( i feel like an a$$ you know.
My Doc wasnot impressed and i'm black and blue, who woulda known
of course not me!!!!
Not only has warfarin been put to the test, hes not sure what
my amiodarone says ,but frankly it would effect it too:(
Should i say more:eek::eek::eek: oh man,the problem he said is the
warfarin mix with the chamomile that becomes a challenge,i guess
the oil was the straw and could of put me in a high risk situation
for bleeding.
He also said to watch my inr closely as he will be calling this week
and doesnot think with the chamomile it can read correct inr for me
because it's not the warfarin, but the oil that becomes a problem.

There that confesses to my stupidness and you know what else
I'd never dreamt camomile oil was so deadly with warfarin.
I worry more about perscribed drugs than something like this.
I feel so dumb, and and now i'm crying cus i got the 3rd degree
from everyone..........How stupid....tomorrow more vampire
blood to donate at lab.I feel like noone understands.:(:

Oh My Gosh........who would have thought.
Here's what I found:

CHAMOMILE (in Chamomile) may interact with WARFARIN SODIUM (in Warfarin Tablets)

Chamomile contains chemicals that can reduce the stickiness of blood components called platelets. Platelets are partly responsible for forming blood clots that stop bleeding from injuries. When taken together with drugs like warfarin that also decrease the blood's ability to clot, chamomile can increase the risk of dangerous bleeding. Inform your doctor before taking warfarin with chamomile or any other herbal supplement. If you take warfarin and chamomile, your doctor may want to give you more frequent blood tests to make sure that your blood is clotting properly. If you experience problems, you may need to stop taking chamomile until warfarin is discontinued. Discuss this potential interaction with your healthcare provider at your next appointment, or sooner if you think you are having problems.

Quite honestly......I mean, who would have thought?

Don't cry and don't feel dumb - live and learn. This is a valuable experience, just real sorry it happened to you.

Hope this all clears up real soon for you Zipper so you can get back on the road to recovery.

Thank goodness you came here to ask and that many people said to get checked out.

The leaflet in my warfarin pack says to check with a doctor or pharmacist if using anything prescribed or bought without prescription. I check everything with the pharmacist, it takes s few seconds but must be worth it as many things I ask about are not to be used.

When I first started taking warfarin I was constantly breaking out in small and not so small bruises I couldn't account for on my legs and arms. My ridgeback dog would push her head between my legs at calf level and those bruises were 6" long on both legs. Just a gentle push. I also noticed people wearing shorts showed the same bruise pattern.

Over time the bruising has diminished and rarely does it occur on my legs or arms without reason. Three weeks ago I slipped on the ice and fell down badly bruising my foot and knee. The bruises are still there. Sometimes I've walked into something hard enough to bruise and don't.

It's just warfarin being warfarin.;)

PS I've been using chamomile containing cream without noticing bruising. That oil must be loaded with it.

Holy Moley! That's amazing. Bath oil, for pete's sake.

And just like when you take lovenox or heparin, it would not show up on your INR (except my INRatio would give me an H error code). In other words, it's like taking asprin or plavix with your coumadin- the machine doesn't read those, but the combination can increase bleeding risks. Two different types of anticoagulation going on. You won't want to change your coumadin dosage, I don't think. You can check it an extra one time this week if you want, but I doubt it will show any change.

Good for your for figuring it out (heck, remembering the new bath oil), and good for your doctor for quizzing you so hard! You'll be fine in about 3 days, as your body makes new platelets.

Meanwhile, have a nice extra serving or two of spinach, cabbage, or kale for the extra Vit K. It might be good for your platelets, and it surely won't hurt.

Wow, who would've thought? Thanks for informing us.. I have a love for oils and things of that nature too, so it's great information for all of us to have.. I'm so sorry for your complications and hope you are better soon!

Deb, please dont feel 'silly' about what happened with the oil. Im sorry that you had to go through this ordeal, but look at the HUGH FAVOUR you have done for all of us who take warfarin. THANKS HUN....(((((HUGS)))))

Zipper, give yourself credit for even thinking about and telling your doctor about the bath oil.

Guess you'll have to find something else that "stinks nice" for your bath :D

Hmmmm - very interesting. I drink Chamomile tea on occasion for upset stomach - or just to relax and I've never had bruising issues

I'm wondering if the chamomile being infused into the skin was causing your surface vessels to have that horrible bleeding reaction. This could be why even washing your face was causing bruising. If you were having any internal bleeding, I would think that could show up in stools, or bloody nose or those types of things. If it was reacting with your skin and surface vessels and going no farther - it could explain why your INR was in range.

This is very interesting. I'm really glad they found the cause for you. We were all worried!

And you have good company in feeling stupid - I found VR because my INR was perpetually low and I was searching the web trying to come up with answers. Turns out I was having 2 protein bars a day - made with soy. I didn't bother to look at the ingredients.:eek::eek:

And a "gift" you say???? Or was this attempted murder! :D ;)

Wow, that's truly an eye opener! I'm glad that your doctor figured it out!

I've always been kind of leary when it comes to applying ointments, lotions, oils without checking the ingredients that are in the product. Your incident is a perfect example of the precautions that some of us have to take.

Like Karlynn, I too drink a mint with chamomile tea about once a week but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary with my INR readings.

Stay well friend! :)

Deb, have some bean and lentil soup before your bath.....guaranteed lots of Bubbles. :)

My father , who is Polish, sent Justin a little bag of "Polish Bubble Bath" for Christmas, it was a baggie of dried beans, with the directions eat 1 hour before bath time.

Maybe the chamomile tea reacts differently than the oil being absorbed thorough the skin?

I know A535 ointment when applied even sparingly (like the tip/top size of a pencil eraser) effects my INR. I know, I know it says right on the box not to use it when/if your on warfarin, but there are days when one just has to do it ;)

Wow Deb,
Who would of thought that. I'm glad you went to the drs. Who knows what would of happened if you would of waited any longer. I never knew or heard such a thing. I'm going to check my lotions etc. to make sure I don't have it either.
Don't feel stupid we all have done more then our share of things, but this is pretty important stuff.
Hope your feeling better soon. Let us know if your blood work comes back ok.

What is the 'A535' ointment for Freddie, if I may ask??
