Hello to all, this is Roberts wife and I wanted to give an update on todays events.

He did well thru the night, then this morning as he went to sit down something happened. He immediately had a lump in the groin, right above the cath entry site. The lump was comparible to the size of an orange, he was in horrific pain regardless of the changed position. Dr said get him to hospital immediately to have it scanned, so he loaded up and we rushed to hospital over 50 miles away.
After arrival, check in, waiting, morphine, more morphine, waiting and FINALLY the extremely painful but much needed ultrasound, the lump seemed smaller, maybe tennis ball size. Eventually we recieved a visit from one of his drs with the results, his angio seal had broken loose. The hemotoma developed immediately after, creating the pool of blood well beneath the skin, and thankfully his body was able to form a clot big enough to seal the artery quickly. His blood cell count looks really good as compared to yesterday and he will have it tested again on Monday.
Doctors say it was "luck of the draw", of the hundreds they do in a month, 2 or 3 will have this experience. (Not a result of anything he did or didn't do.) So now we are back home, he is on strick bed rest for the next 4-5 days, in hopes that the artery will heal properly with no seal. He sees the dr on Thursday to follow-up on this.
He has promised to stay in bed (without the restraints) if I will catch him up and read him all of your posts.... I can comply although the tie-downs are ready, lol
Thanks for all of your prayers & support ~ Chansi

Tie-downs can be fun. :rolleyes::eek::D Sorry - couldn't resist.

Sorry he had this problem - very scary indeed. Be sure to tell him we all said to stay in bed and behave himself.

Also, get some rest yourself.

After my cath, since I was almost fainting and it was late in the day, they decided to keep me overnight. Better safe than sorry, right?
Hopefully Rob will stay in bed and really let that artery heal. It's nothing to mess with.
Oh, what the heck, tie him down anyway. ;)

Wow, that was scary! However, the tie downs should make you both feel better! It definitely makes staying in bed more fun!

Be good Rob!

Glad he his home, hope he gets lots of rest and feels better soon.

Yikes! That sounds incredibly painful and glad he's home. Here's hoping this is the only glitch and that it's smooth sailing from here on in.

Best wishes, good luck, and another yes vote from me for the tie-down. ;)

So sorry to hear this. What an awful experience. What good luck his body was able to clot itself. In this case, a clot was welcome.

Please give him my best wishes and hopes everything will be smoogth sailing from now.

Really sorry to hear this news, Chansi. Hope he's feeling better. After we all told him the cath was no big deal, I think we jinxed him. :) Hopefully this will be the only complication he'll have to deal with in the weeks ahead.

Oh geez Chansi, Tell Bob he better stay in that bed as instructed. Hope that things straighten up for you guys. I will keep praying that this is the only bump in your road to a mended heart. :D Oh golly almost forgot "GO BOOMER SOONER!!

So sorry to hear that. Hope you rest and heal fast.

Forgive me for asking...I know it wan'ts something you did or did not do?! but for the sake of learning from each other. You mentioned it was a long day, but I was not sure if the hospital kept you flat on your back after the cath? and for how long?

I was kept flat on my back for full dull 6 hours and the nurse kept coming every 10 minutes to the room to remind me not to move my legs and especially not to lift up my head. Before leaving, I had to sign a form that I understood the discharge instructions clearly that I had to rest for 48 hours during which I was not allowed to carry or move a lot or move anything! Maybe mine was a special case, but I wondered if they warn all patients the same wa.

Good luck and prayers.:)

Eva, his story goes just like yours. This was the first place I came for an answer (using a variety of search topics) as I waited for the doctors return call, which didn't turn up too much help, so if Roberts experience helps someone down the road it is worth answering a billion questions!!

Our message to others was that an Angio-Seal can fail or break loose, without any fault of the patient or doctor, but just due to the natural movement of our bodies. It is more common to happen in those that are thin or obese. Those that tend to be thin have less "cushion" for protection, those that are obese have more pull against the outside of the seal. Main thing for patient and caregiver is not to panic, but get medical attention immediately. There is the possiblity of a femoral bleed that doesn't present itself until it is too late. Sometimes the patient will feel a "pop" ~ Robert didn't, he explained it to be more like a snag or catch inside the groin.

Thanks ~ Chansi

Thanks, Chansi, for the clarification. Take care boh of you and I hope the surgery recovery will be very smooth since Bob has already had his share of discomfort and panic and you too.

Good luck and best wishes :)
