Cindy - I think you're melting! 2.8 lbs!

Cindy thinks her loss was a "correction" loss based on her gain last week. She was up last week, but did nothing different from this week. 2.8 pounds is a lot in a week. Those losses are few for sure. I'd take one though.

BTW, I think your thread for Throwdown recipes was a fantastic idea. I'm looking forward to trying some new recipes and contributing as well! :D

Well after last months gain of about 4lbs,Ive decided Ive had enough!
Its summer, Im 20lbs over,and I cant fit in my clothes-its moo-moo time!
So All this week I was a model dieter ; didnt go over 900 calories and took
long ,hi-rev walks almost everyday, and I lost........NOTHING!!!!:(
But Im not giving up and atleast I didnt gain. I knew it would be difficult b/c of the low thyroid,so onward!

Also congrats to all of you who are doing well:)

Hang in there Dina?.it will come off??Now I?m not a dietician but 900 calories does not sound like enough?especially if you a exercising?..your body may be going into anti-starvation mode?..Some of the resident jocks (no disrespect) may see this and comment?they will know more about caloric intake needs while dong heavy exercise.

Thanks for the input .And I have been told this before so you are probably right. Its just that my metabolism is SO slow (even with 100mg of Synthroid)
that I feel I have no other choice . I would ask my doc for those new diet
pills , but with the meds I take and a history of arrhytmias, I doubt its a
good idea. Thanks again for listening.

To Cindy : Im jealous; Congrats!

Dina, thanks!

Also, I'd recommend 48 ounces of water a day (or 24 oz. water, plus 24 oz. other non-caffeinated drink). Also watching sodium intake may help. Of course, I have no idea if you're already doing these things. Just saying this because not being adequately hydrated can slow weight loss also. I do realize thyroid issues are a different thing entirely, but you may want to try a week with a little more calories (1000-1200 per day) and see if you have any different result. Even with a slow metabolism, you can consume too few calories.

I'm down .4 lbs this week. Another fraction, but they all add up. Been busy the last few days. Went down the Princeton to see my new granddaughter Lily.

Dina, I am experiencing your discouragement too. I've been working out an average of 45 minutes/day for the last 2 weeks and prior to that I was doing probably 30 minutes 4 times a week. I've been eating very well, hardly any bad days (with a few exceptions), drinking lots of water and the scale basically hasn't budged an ounce since this Throw Down started many moons ago. I've lost 2 or 4 now and again, but somehow seemed to always find it. It worries me because I know I am eating well. If I went back to just eating what I wanted like before - would I be putting on weight like crazy??? It's frustrating to always be denying myself the "bad" things and not see any progress.

But..... I'm hanging in there. I'm trying not to weigh myself. The Wii Fit that I used as part of my regular workout weighs me and calculates my BMI - when I ask it too. It wants me to do it every day, and I was. But it was getting too frustrating to see "Oh boy, I've lost 1.2 pounds." followed by "Darn it all, I gained 2.3" When I first got the Wii (about 2.5 weeks ago.) I set a 12 pound weight loss in a 2 months time frame. As off Monday, I had 9.5 weeks to go and 12.4 pounds to lose.

This weekend is a bad weekend. On the good news front, we're going with friends to see James Taylor. On the bad news side - it's one of those outdoor concerts where you bring food and wine and dine before hand. Then Sunday I'm having a cookout for my music team. I know I won't go crazy, but on Memorial Weekend when I allowed myself some treats (and not a lot) - I picked up 5 pounds and it took me a week to lose it.

So here are my thoughts. Both you and I don't have a lot of weight to lose - and that is always the hardest. I don't know about you, but I'm 49 and at that age where it's just like trying to move a mountain to lose a pound. It's a good thing we are doing this - regardless of weight loss. It's just what's healthy for us.

On the other hand. I'm giving it another few weeks. With what I'm doing there really isn't any reason I shouldn't be losing weight. If I haven't lost any, I'm make an appointment with my PCP to discuss it and maybe do some bloodwork. Or maybe he'll have the magic answer!!!

Good luck. And it's the people on this Throw Down that keep me from getting so discouraged I do a dive into a chocolate fudge brownie and never surface. :D

Jack,
She's a beautiful baby! Congratulations!

Wise and Cindy, way to go! I'm glad you are a dead heat; it should help to keep things interesting!

Karlynn, Dina, and Niki, maybe it's the humidity that's causing you to retain fluid and look like you've not had much of a loss? It sure hurts me this time of the year.

The Ref declares the humidity is at fault --- that works for me!!! :p esp with our air-conditioner on the fritz and no service guy available to come by til tomorrow. On the other hand, that should help melt some of Superblob away, shouldn't it?

Well, it's strange -- it is reasonably cool in the basement (I know, cool air sinks, warm air rises) -- but it actually feels like the a-c is blowing out cold air down there. But on the first floor very little cool air is coming out and it's 85 degrees up there. We have an appointment in morning but a-c serviceman supposed to come after that. Hopefully he can fix. Going to be 100 tomorrow. It is a 14-year-old a-c (Trane), always run well, hope it can still be fixed.

Anyway, maybe Superbob will melt away some pounds. :D

Jack - I must have been writing my long-winded post when you posted the picture of Miss Lily and Grandpa. She's lovely! Congratulations!
