They're very tasty and VERY high in sodium! That's what's wrong the the grocery store roasted chicken. :(

Superbob has never been instructed by any of his doctors to control sodium particularly (though he has learned from you all that he probably should be). Superbob does do a good bit of label-reading, checking particularly for sugars and of course calories (plus trans fats etc)....

As for sodium, I see the grocery store's label states that one serving of the store-roasted chicken has 290 mg of sodium, or 12 percent of daily value. That seems not terribly high for the evening entree compared to some other prepared foods -- for example, this little can of black-eyed peas (a Southern staple) I have in my hand (hawked as a "fat-free food") has 380 mg of sodium per serving. And a Campbell's tomato soup has 530 mg of sodium per serving.

So Superbob rises to the defense of the grocery-roasted chicken --- geez, ladies, Superbob has to eat something or he won't be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! :p:p:p

I have no problem with salt....it make DW retain water like a camel:eek:...some peeps have more probs that others......It does seem to slow weight loss if I eat a lot of it....but as SB says, it is in everything and southern food seems to be the worst.

I wonder if women are more sensitive to salt??

I'm very sensitive to it. If I have too much I actually still huff and puff at the top of the stairs. I had a nurse at cardiac rehab explain it all to me once, but not being of the medical pesuasion it went in one ear and out the other. It is not good for us heart patients.

Soups are notorious for high salt. It improves the bland taste that broth would otherwise have. That is why homemade is so much better for you. I'm amazed that your storebought chicken had the sodium content posted on it!! I think that before they roast them they sometimes soak them in a brine of sorts (that really permeates the whole bird) and then they salt the skin of course (which we're supposed to toss out, but why buy the chicken if you can't have the nice fatty, crunchy skin??)

My problem this weekend was that everything was overloaded with sodium. Not just one meal....every meal for 3 days. So that's why I was uncomfortable.

But! My cardio had an emergency and rescheduled, so I have a week to get my BP calmed down now anyway!

Did anyone ever come up with a sodium reading on a can of diet soda? Just curious.

Salads and cereal all week for me!

Carry on everyone!

I just went to look (have some diet Coke left over from when my aunt came at Christmas). It said there is 40 mg in the whole can of soda. At the top of the can it said "very low sodium." So I don't know if it's normally that low or if this can happens to be? However, keep in mind 40 mg is still more than the 0 mg in water or tea (which is what I drink)! ;) Somehow I doubt one can of diet soda is going to cause too much of a problem...

Thanks, Niki. Wonder what a normal soda has! I'll check. I was just curious since someone who drinks the diet sodas regularly noticed such a difference in her hands (ring size) when she stopped drinking them. Just something for anyone who keeps them as part of their steady diet to consider. Personally I cannot do NutraSweet or any of the other sweeteners at all....they all trigger room altering migraines in me.

Oh! just watched a robin tuck into an eave outside this window. There is a deck above me here at this computer. There are so many nests under the deck it appears to be an apartment complex! Can't wait to hear all the little tweeties!! How long is a robin's egg gestation? ;):D

After being so proud of myself for controlling myself at the two Mothers Day feasts I went and took a slide:mad:….I took Monday off and after some chores and a “light" lunch with a friend I settled down for some chat time and TV…..All of a sudden my sweet tooth kicked in, I remembered the leftover cake and pie my DW had stored in the refrigerator in the garage…….need I say more:eek:……If I could figure out which tooth was the sweet one I would yank that sucker out:D:rolleyes:;)

Robin's egg incubation is 12-14 days.

I was going to offer to drive down and knock the sweet tooth out for him! If I didn't get the right one, I'd just keep trying!:p:p:p

I had been so good about low carbing. I had gotten past the sweet cravings. And then Mother's Day came and my niece made a dessert that was my 2 favorite sweet things combined - Chocolate Chip cookies and cheese cake. Not to be confused with Choc Chip cheese cake. This dessert was the devil's work, no doubt.

I am climbing the walls - just "jonesing" for a fix! I just spent the morning out in my side yard clearing out millions of little seedling weed trees and leaves. I'm trying to work through the "pain". So far, no success. I almost jumped a kindergartener walking by with a cookie.

NO!
Don't give the chimp the recipe! Please, I implore you!
He's obviously gone off the edge and needs to get a grip!:(
Cooker, hang on!:)

Karlynn, I feel your pain! I've pretty well quit eating everything sweet so I don't have to fight the craving afterwards.:(

What would I do without you guys:rolleyes:....this outpouring of concern has left a lump in my throat.......no, wait, that's a donut:D:p:p

Years ago, my sister-in-law used to make me strawberry cakes for my birthday. Were better than scones, even BTS. :p No one could make them like her. If someone came along today with a strawberry cake like that, SB would just chuck his grand plan to be slim and hiking again....:p:D

When are we going to put this BTS rumor to rest?:mad:

I think it's about time we test this assertion!

Cooker, we need a new thread. Cookers WeighIn on "goodies"/ThrownDown on Sex!

You can designate which days for goodies and what nights for sex! :p:p

Ref, I thought you were trying to calm The Chimp down?! This is going to send him into an even wilder frenzy ....:D:D:D

I never said I was trying to calm him down!

It's not in my job description!

I'm saying that strawberry cake, chocolate chip cookies and cream cheese, pies, and all the other delicacies mentioned, combined with a whiff of sex, is pushing the limits of my objectivity!:(
If I can't decide between BTS and the above named goodies, how can I possibly Ref in good conscience?:confused:
