This is my first post although I've been reading the board for weeks. What a great resource this is - I am so happy I have found you all!

I'm another Aussie (I notice there are a few of us here) and I've just returned home to Brisbane after 3 years in the UK. I have aortic stenosis with severe regurgitation complements of rheumatic fever in my youth. While in the UK I was told I would need to have my aortic valve replaced 'soon' so now that I'm home and settled I have decided I will get things looked at. I'm getting lots of palps and SOB.

I do not want to go back and see my old cardiologist so am wondering if someone could help me with some cardiologist/surgeon recommendations? Like everyone else I want the best team taking care of me!

Thanks again for a wonderful forum.

Lucy

Lucy,

Welcome to our world! I don't have any advice for you on cardios in your area but as wide as the vr.com network is, I bet someone will. Lots of folks here with lots of experiences. Jump right into the discussions, don't be shy.

All best wishes,

Welcome to the VR community. Glad you found us. I'm sure some of your fellow Aussies will be along shortly with suggestions/recommendations down under.

Welcome, Lucy!
I'm sure our Australian members will wander through and be able to help. My geographical knowledge of Australia is limited, so I don't know which members live near you. I'm glad you found us.:)

Hi Lucy - Glad you found the site and welcome! Recently there have been several other new Aussie members. No doubt someone with the experience you need will be along soon to answer your specific question. Take care :) .

You may want to start another thread with a catchy title such as "Looking for Cardio & Surgeon in Brisbane".

Welcome Aboard Mate!

Hi Lucy -

Welcome to this site...it's so nice to have you here.

I have no idea as to what dr. you should see where you live. Make sure you get one you feel very comfortable with and who will take the time to answer all the questions that you have. I'm sure someone here will know of a good doctor in your area.

Welcome again!!

Dawn-Marie

Hi Lucy, can't help with your question but just wanted to say welcome and best of luck.

Thank you all for your welcomes. I will take Al's advice and ask my question another way!

Welcome aboard Lucy. :)
I am also an aussie however I am 2000 kilometres south of you!!
I am an AVR survivor at the age of 41 when I had surgrey. :)
If you were in Melbourne the two surgeons I would recommend are Peter Skillington (public hospital Royal Melbourne, private hospital Epworth) or George Matalanis, (public hospital Austin) George is now the director of cardiac thoracic surgery at Austin I do not know if he still does work in the private system since he accepted this post (he was working also at the Knox hospital and the Epworth). These are the two top surgeons in Melbourne. :)
I am not familiar with any surgeon in Brisbane.

Hi Lucy,

This is also my first post on this forum. I live in Victoria and therefore I can not offer suggestions for cardiologists/surgeons located in the Brisbane area.

Although, Peter Skillington was the surgeon who performed OHS 7 weeks ago to replace my mitral valve. He is excellent.

I do recall a cardiologist talking about an excellent surgeon based in Brisbane, however I have no other details.

Maybe you could contact the Cardiology department at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and see if they could suggest a surgeon.

All the best, Mimi

Welcome Mimi

Welcome Mimi

Mimi welcome aboard. :)
I am pleased you have joined us. :)
Melbourne must be the VR centre of Australia !!
I am pleased you had a good experience with Peter Skillington.
As I have posted previously if you are having surgery in Melbourne Peter or George are the two go to guys. :)

Thanks Mimi and OME for your replies - looks like I'll have to travel to Melbourne for my surgery lol. I haven't given up on finding the best Brisbane surgeon yet - I know he's out there!

Thanks again for your help
