Ross, so glad you are home and back. You are in our prayers. Take care of yourself. Everything will be ok. :)

Has anyone else had a GI bleed event here? I ask because my BP is still way low and scary at times. I'm averaging 88/50 and my normal was 120-130/90-70. It's very disturbing. :(

that is just a bit on the low-side...is that what it was like while you were in hossy?
did they give you a top-up in hossy? (my memory is shocking  )
..dont you dare go getting sick again :(
you are sposed to be on-the-mend.

wonder if this is similar...

wonder if this is similar...

hi ross,
interestingly, when my dad had his internal bleed about a year and a half ago, after having had hernia surgery with a surgeon who knew very little about coumadin bridging. he left the hospital after 2 days, went home, was given lovenox shots daily in addition to starting his coumadin again (i don't know if they monitored or tested his inr), and was rushed to the hospital 3 days after that. his doctor responded to his calls by telling him to go to the er if he wasn't feeling well. meanwhile, his pressure dropped to 60/40 and we thought we might lose him. he'd lost a ton of blood.

fast forward to two or three weeks later, he's home and his pressure drops. he is rushed to the hospital, stabilized and returned home several days later.
they thought it might still be the bleed, the hematoma (possibly pressing against something in order to cause this drop in pressure)...

again, fast forward to the next weekend home...his pressure drops again and this time my mom takes him to the heart hospital (not where he'd been taken before). they keep him for a whole week and run tests. the hematoma is located above his intestines and stomach, hence the bloating, they also thought it might still be bleeding negligibly, did cat's, gi tests, etc.
watched him very closely, meds, etc. and after a full week of what i call "r&r" he came home and was fine after that.

i wonder if this drop is related to blood loss, past and present. maybe it's the body getting back to its homeostatic state? i'm not sure, but all the times they did hospitalize him, they didn't seem overly concerned and they managed to resolve it.
have you called your dr about this drop in bp? maybe it's time???
do you get lightheaded? dizzy? i can't remember all the details as it seems so long ago, but i know it's really frightening.
i remember driving out there (45 min) late at night to see that he was ok...
please ask your doc, it seems to be worrying you, maybe it's nothing, maybe it's meds, maybe it's something...

let us know how you're doing and what the doc says, ok?
get well and strong, sylvia

Ross, I had a GI bleed a year or so ago. It was different though since my hemoglobin is usually above 16 and therefore I could loose a lot of blood and still not be much below normal. I was put on a combination of antibiotics at the time and prevacid solutabs everyday since. I haven't had a recurrance. At the time the scenario was similar to yours as far as abdominal pain and then the black tarry mess:( . The site of bleeding was not discovered with the EGD later on for me either. I don't know about your blood pressure though. My B/P was running about what yours did before the bleed and dropped some but not to the extent yours did and came back up to the pre-bleed range quite quickly. But last year my blood pressure was deliberately lowered by adding another diuretic and Altace to bring to hopefully reduce the pressure in my lungs. Now my normal is 90ish over 60ish and I actually feel better than I did. You are kinda on a tight-rope though because you really can't load up with fluids that could raise you blood pressure without also having the concern that it could make your CHF worse. Did they change your meds? It may just take some time. Just take it really easy for right now and be careful about getting up too fast and stuff, OK?

No they changed nothing, just took me off all of them which made the CHF kick into high gear. Once they were convinced that the bleed was no longer going on, they slowly added back my previous meds with the diuretics being last. I'm still shedding the weight. The only addition is Avelox since they think I have a touch of pneumonia. I'll be done with that by next Tuesday.

The Doctors don't seem to be the least bit upset about it, but sometimes in falls dangerously close to the numbers that prompted me to go to the ER in the first place.
Yes, when it's low, I do get dizzy and also it affects my vision. It's as if the sun is setting dead square on top of what I'm trying to see blindingly bright to the point that I cannot see. It's very unsettling.

Welcome home! I'm sure you must be delighted to be home! As you can see VR.com is delighted as well.
I'm sorry about your new troubles so I will keep you in my prayers and wish you well in the days ahead.

Does this mean you love me?

You know it's funny Ross, I never in a million years thought I would get involved on a Board like VR.com. And even though I don't check in on a daily basis (and post even less often) I do think about all the posters and the myriad of health problems that everyone is dealing with like yourself and Debbi who just started chemo and Praline and her dear husband and Nancy and her husband Joe etc etc etc etc. I can't believe how without even realizing it I have gotten attached to so many people here. And really do care about them.

Actually I sometimes feel funny posting because I don't post that often and when I do I don't ever offer any helpful answers to anyone because I haven't been through what everyone else has with their heart problems and worry that my valve problem is not really that big an issue compared to some of the serious stuff others have had to deal with. So I hope that my prayers and best wishes are enough to keep my "membership" valid until the time comes when I really need some help and prayers from the "experts". Sorry to have rambled on and on.
Susie

Susie this is what this forum is all about. You should feel welcome to post as much as you wish. Your time will come and when it does, you'll have the backing of people you never have and may never meet in person, grabbing the chains and helping pull you over your hurdles. There is no place like VR, NONE. I've been to many forums and sure there is brotherhood and such, but this is completely different here. ;)

I have been having the exact same feelings. I have taken to wearing sunglasses - even in doors sometimes - just to be able to see.

 I wear my sunglasses at night :D
