Oh wait....my question was all wrong. Reagan was gov of CA when he pardoned Merle. One of the reasons Merle loved Reagan so much was because he was a peace-lovin' guy. Merle said of Reagan:
"The great humanitarian ... the freedom ... the intentional way he went about spreading freedom all over the world was remarkable. He did it in a peaceful way, and he didn't have to use our military might. He was a man of peace, and that speaks right now. As a world and as a country, we gotta somehow come to the bargaining table without shooting at each other, and he stood for that."
I think the danger is for the next autumn flu season when this virus may
come out of summer hibernation, theSpanish Flu acted un this way. And I
dont think I would be as worried if I didnt live in the city.
This is exactly the point I'm trying to get across to everyone. This particular round may not be that threatening, then it will go away and resurface with a whole new and uglier face then before. Don't underestimate these little devils. This thing has proven that it can spread rapidly. Is our science good enough to thwart and nastier virus then the one currently?
The vaccine will be available in about four months and I will certainly take up the offer which our government is making which is that everyone in the island can be vaccinated, they are training up staff to give the vaccines.
Apparently the pig living in Western Canada that was infected with swine flu caught it from a farm worker who had just returned from vacation in Mexico. There could be more to that story, but I'm just not following it that closely. I'm more concerned with the confirmation this week of a swine flu case in a private elementary school which is not too far from where I live......
My rules to live by: don't kiss germy kids, and don't kiss factory farm pigs.
Kiss all the goaties that you want, they are sweet and clean.....LOL.....LOL...
My alarmist tendencies have mellowed in the past months, but I'm still sensing a crescendo building in regards to H1N1. It's stuck around even as the initial fear in the U.S. has subsided (shades of 9/11 apathy), and "officials" keep bringing it up.
It seems clear that the government isn't concerned about it as a possibility but that it WILL happen, as there has been info dribbling out little by little in the past few months all pointing to the fall as some kind of flashpoint for H1N1, whether due to complications with normal flu or something else.
In addition to respirator-style masks and whatnot, it's in everyone's best interests to stock up on common supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, aspirin, batteries, etc. as well as food to get you by in case quarantines are established. Saving up a few extra bucks to pay bills online or via the phone should mail service be interrupted or banks closed and devising a way to work from home if possible. This isn't chicken littleism, but rather prudence.
On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) signaled that a global pandemic of novel influenza A (H1N1) was underway by raising the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6. This action was a reflection of the spread of the new H1N1 virus, not the severity of illness caused by the virus. At the time, more than 70 countries had reported cases of novel influenza A (H1N1) infection and there were ongoing community level outbreaks of novel H1N1 in multiple parts of the world.
