Anyone heard of fifth disease or slapped cheek during the flu season?

Will my grandaughter (shantal) contracted this at school and alot
of kids at her school have it or still going through it

Shes over the contagious stage and now in rash stage.
She was terribly sick with it and from what ive learned
it is a very common childhood illness, spread by cough or sneeze
water fountains ,utensils sharing of drink @or cups

Flu season is here for sure with something else to add Slap Cheek
what next, cus i never ever heard of this till my grandaughter got it.

She developed the rash Monday is entirely covered like measles
shes not ill now but week prior to rash showing up she was very, very
sick with headache bad, tummy ache, fever, runny nose all flu symptoms
you could have at one time @ more she went through a horrible time
with joint pain as she fought this bug

I just cannot believe all the flues out there along with Swine
Ten year old girl in one of schools here has swine and not Shantals
school, but .....IT'S HERE too only matter of time

Justin had it. He was miserable. Apparently sun, exercise, stress make it worse and he was playing baseball and the rash started to spread all over and he had to leave before the game was over. We ended up taking him to the local ER since it was a weekend and the rash was all over his body his eye was swelling shut and he was so miserable. They didn't know what it was, but the next day his ped said it was 5th.
I always thought the name 5ths disease was funny, since it is one of the 5 most common childrens disease, measle, mumps, rubella, chicken pox and then 5ths..you would have thought they could have been a little more creative in coming up with a name.

Zipper,
I don't personally know of anyone who has had it, but just want you to know that I am thinking of your grandaughter and hope she gets better soon!

My granddaughter had it this fall. I'd never heard of it before. It usually passes quite quickly and apparently harmlessly. There's a first through fourth disease as well, as Lyn mentions above.

Best wishes,

My grandson had it and when my DIL told me he had fifth disease. I asked her "what's that"

My children never had it nor my older grandchildren. I had never even heard of it.

I used to see it in the ER and it is true that the cheeks appear "slapped" because of the flush. I don't remember ever admitting a patient with it to the hospital though.

Thanks everyone shes over her sometimes itchy rash

Now we deal with a bad fall from school playground, cut on
head Monday not severe enough to stitch and one heck of
bruise on head and bruised arm and cut palm of her hand
This to shall pass and comes with attending school also;)
