Hi everybody. This is Jim's wife.
Jim was admitted to the hospital Monday night.
Sunday night he had vomiting problems.
Monday he grew progressively weaker and felt like passing out after 30 seconds standing.
I took him to the hospital where he passed out and then started vomiting blood. Internal bleeding.
They put an ENT? tube down into his stomach and found both old and new blood.
He receieved:
the dreaded vitamin K shot IM.
4 units frozen plasma
8 units of blood
lots of IV fluids
no liquids or fluids until today-now clear liquids.
He has had an upper GI scope -showed a tear in his stomach and a clot over
the tear
echocardiogram
will have another scope tomorrow
He is not receiving coumadin, yesterday they gave him heparin
subcutaneously. When they stopped coumadin his stroke risk was 85 %,
with the heparin his risk has dropped to 40%
Today they moved him out of ICU to a step down - PCU?
The prognosis looks better today.
