almost a month since my 3rd OHS and i still can't feel the area of my scar and what's surround it , as well as the groin in my upper right thigh i can't feel the upper part of my thighs as well where the scar and groin is, are all of you numb or is it just me???

The area immediately around my incision scar, especially near the lower end, is still quite numb at three months post OHS. Cardiac specialist nurse told me this is becuase the nerves that are cut take a long time to regrow….some never do. Time will tell.

Sometimes it just doesn't get better. My chest scar and drain scars are fine, but I still have a patch on my chest that is numb due to having a bypass performed at the same time as the valve replacement. I was told that it might recover, but that some of the nerves within the chest may have been damaged and may not recover. Feels funny, though.

Also, I have one spot neat my chest scar that "refers" the sense of touch to another spot. When I touch "spot-A" I feel it at "spot-B." Strange. . .

I never had bypass, only valve replacement but still have that numb area at the lower end of the incision scar…weird.

I, too, had some numbness around the lower half of my chest incision. Six months after my AVR, the sensation began to return and it feels normal now almost five years later. During any surgery, nerves may be severed but they are certainly traumatized. I don't think there is much to be done except give it time. This is one of those "minor side effects" of heart surgery that are not generally discussed but sort come with the package. At any rate, you are not the only one to experience this. I would be surprised if most of us have not had some numbness.

The area around the scar on my chest is still numb. In fact if I press on the area closest to my sternum, I can feel it almost under my arm pit. It must be a nerve that runs along there.

It's been almost 5 weeks since my AVR surgery my scar is 3 inches long horizontally above my right breast, the area under it is still numb. My left groin area still has a lump that I'm told will go away. I guess I'm lucky this time not a huge scar and I feel pretty good 5 weeks out, I just have to remember not to lift anything, there is a titanium plate connecting my rib back to my chest bone.

I'm nine months post and I still have a tiny semi-numb spot at the lower right edge of the incision. I don't even notice it anymore unless I poke around trying to find it.

Some of the nerves that were severed will take many months to make new pathways and grow back. Have no fear by 1 year (if not much much sooner) vast majority of numbness will go away as nerve endings will grow, connect, plant roots, and return the feeling back.

Also, to help things massage the areas with numbness on and around them at least daily and increase blood flow gently, this sort of stimulus will always help. Some people talked about acupuncture but I think it's not needed needed.

I am seven weeks out. No numbness by incision, but in right thumb all the way up arm to above right breast. Also in right inner thigh. I think both are from my two extra heart lung machine incisions by my groin and right clavicle. I had no numbness with my other OHS 7.5 years ago.
