Hi ALL. Sorry for my absense.

Here is the skinny on me - I'm 1.6 years post mitral valve repair with annuloplasty ring for severe mitral regurgitation and have never recovered. Been experiencing extreme shortness of breath, lung congestion, cough, palpatations, chest discomfort prior to and post-op, which has worsened. All this is exacerbated from "minimal" exertion. I have complete exercise intolerance. I've had several echo's since MVR which have indicated the following: cardiomyopathy, stage 3 diastolic dysfunction, moderate tricuspid regurgitation, moderate pulmonary hypertension, severe hypertension and the latest, mitral stenosis. Cardiologist refered me to PH Specialist who FINALLY ordered a RHC/LHC and found the pressures on both the left and right side to be moderately elevated - 47mmHG (MPAP); 27 (PCWP), pulmonary hypertension secondary to moderate mitral stenosis. The RHC report listed the MVA as 1.5; Mean Mitral Gradient 9. These numbers are at rest. Again, symptoms become extreme with minimal exertion...being chest congestion, cough, shortness of breath, palpatations. Both PH Specialist and Cardiologist suggested that perhaps my annuloplasty ring was either too tight or too small (my surgeon is known for undersizing the ring...called the Bolling Procedure...Steven Bolling is my surgeon.) Anyway, surgeon looked at RHC report and ordered TEE, which I have tomorrow. I'm thinking another surgery is inevitiable at this point but he hasn't given me his interpretation yet. Waiting on TEE. Any thoughts? Anyone out there experience this or something similar. Thank you for helping me out with this. Hope all is well with all of you.

I have also had mitral valve repair with an annuloplasty ring and have mild stenosis of the mitral valve now. My MD told me this was of no concern and is common after repair from the scar tissue in the valve since the leaflet(s) are cut and sutured. I had my surgery 12/08 and am just now feeling better after some complications, I am finally getting out for all of the hiking and activities I did presurg. I hope mine doesn't progress, I just recovered. It sounds like yours is much more severe, I wish you the best and hope you find a remedy for your issues.

Sorry to read about what you are going through, Dee.

I wish I had anything to tell you. Keep you spirits high and I shall keep you in my prayers.

I will look forward to hearing your surgeon's interpretation.

Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear this. I know you had some worries soon after surgery, but I had hoped they improved more as you recoverred.
