I believe the time changes used to take place in April and October.
About a year or two ago, "someone" made the grand decision to move up the spring change to the month of March.
Hence, an extra month of DST yearly until "someone" changes the rules again. :)

Who is Pauxatawney?!

Eva, you must never watch the early morning TV news shows. Every Feb 2 is Groundhog Day. In Pauxatawney PA amid much hoopla these dudes in tuxedos and stovepipe hats haul a poor pitiful woodchuck ouf of a box in a fake stump and decide whether or not he sees his shadow. His name is Pauxatawney Phil.

BTW, we're paying for our lovely week (sunny and 90 degrees) with tempst dropping to 28 tonight, and winds of 35 mph. Phooey.

Daylight savings time begins....NOT SOON ENOUGH! We are supposed to get up to 6" of snow tomorrow, which very rarely happens. I'm over the cold and rain and want sunshine and more importantly WARMTH!

"There may also be an economic benefit to DST, as daylight evening hours encourage people to go out and shop, potentially spurring economic growth.".

...Except when you live in a country with such heavily regulated trading hours that the shops close at the same time regardless.

Dayton and others who are not convinced, how about this other reason/study from same article above:
"In addition, some argue that there is a public health benefit to Daylight Saving Time, as it decreases traffic accidents. Several studies in the U.S. and Great Britain have found that the DST daylight shift reduces net traffic accidents and fatalities by close to one percent. An increase in accidents in the dark mornings is more than offset by the evening decrease in accidents."

I've seen studies that have shown an increase in traffic accidents every year when the clocks are set forward an hour since people effectively lose an hour of sleep.

Look long enough and you can find statistics to back anything!

A : )

If you hate DST, move to Arizona! We don't have it. No one wants an extra hour of daylight here.

The only trouble is that the TV schedules get completely screwed up. You basically cannot trust any TV schedule report. Some networks keep us on Mountain time, some put us on Pacific time, and the Disney channel puts us on the time schedule of the planet Zork.

Anna, I am sure different studies will publish different results. There is one study that shows the energy savings overall is woth the change!

Why would not TV stations adjust their program timings?!

Kim, the sun always shines no matter how long the night is!
