I have BAV with severe stenosis and a dilated aortic root (sound familiar!!??), and am looking at surgery in the next 3-4 months. I'm scheduled to see a CT surgeon, Dr James Davies, at UAB in several weeks and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience at UAB or with Dr Davies.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks, Cat and T-Money. I saw Dr Davies last week and he was very professional and gracious with my litany of questions.

T-Money...what type of valve did you opt for?

Thanks again...

I had my AVR at UAB and thought I knew who ALL of the staff Surgeons were but have NEVER heard of a Dr. Davies at UAB. Are you talking about the UAB Hospital connected with the Kirklin Clinic in Downtown Birmingham, or a 'satellite' Hospital somewhere else?

The Surgeons I know of at UAB are:
Dr. James Kirklin (son of Dr. John Kirklin -deceased- for whom the Kirklin Clinic is named)
Dr. David McGiffin from Brisbane Australia
Dr. Pajaro - recruited from Florida when Dr. Pacifico, their Top Surgeon, Retired
Dr. Athanasuleus - recruited from another Birmingham Hospital

EDIT -

Well, I did a Google search for Dr. Davies (and Dr. David McGiffin)
and discovered that Dr. Davies IS an Assistant Professor of Surgery at UAB,
along with a couple of other names I did not recognize
and did NOT see Dr. Pajaro listed as a Surgeon at UAB...

Interesting Developments... I'll have to do some more 'digging'...
