My optical migraines have been exasperated by valve repacement surgery. The following is a reprint of my post of Oct 30, 2005; I have suffered from ocular migraines since age 19. I am 72 now. Prior to valve replacement I would get maybe 3 or 4 a year. Now I get them maybe weekly, but...

    Heart Cath danger and anxiety

I had a cath with an aneurysm in the ascending aorta in 2002. All went well. My cath took 90 minutes to complete. The nurses said I got my monies worth since they typically take 30 minutes. What credentials does this person who says it should not be done have?

Mechanical Valves - Perhaps A Silly Question

For a long time I have wondered why mechanical valves are bicuspid. It is good to hear that experimentation is going on for tricuspid mechanical valves. That brings up another question: Are all tissue valves tricuspid? If so does that make them better as far as patient abilities, fatigue, etc ?

Survey: How did you choose your surgeon

My surgeon was selected by the hospital in which I had a catherization and TEE. I knew very little about aortic valve replacement but I was frightened because I had an aneurysm at the valve. The operation was scheduled within one week. After his round of surgery the surgeon came to my room to...

    Getting Medical Records?

I obtained the report of my valve replacement from my hospital with no problem at all. The girl in medical records does this as a matter of routine. I did have to make the request in writing on a form they provided. No charge.

    Scared and confused

I had a St Jude valve replacement on 27 June 2002. The operation and hospital stay of 5 days were uneventful. At the hospital I felt a bit stiff and sore, kind of like I had flu symptoms. I was given pain pills (Darvocet). When I protested to the surgeon that I had no pain he said take them...
