2nd valve surgery on May 9

Hi, all, I'm not sure if many of you remember me. I had a mitral repair in June 2006 and will be having a replacement next Monday, May 9. I suppose you could say my 10-year extended warranty is up. I'd been symptomatic for a while, and after several tests, my cardio decided that it was time...

    Surgery May 9

Hi, all, I'm not sure if many of you remember me. I had a mitral repair in June 2006 and will be having a replacement next Monday, May 9. I suppose you could say my 10-year extended warranty is up. I'd been symptomatic for a while, and after several tests, my cardio decided that it was time...

    Rose Parade

Hi, all, It has been a long time since I've been on the boards here! Many of you on Facebook may have seen that I was walking in the Rose Parade with the Union Bank/AHA float. I didn't mention it earlier because I was an alternate until this past week. I want to share that I was thinking of all...

    Surgery soon...

Hi, all, A quick update: I am on track for valve surgery #2. I'm having a heart cath on the 27th and then Doc will consult with the surgeon (a new one, more local). In the meantime, I will be getting all my dental stuff taken care of, with an upcoming gum graft in March. I don't know if I...

    Surgery Timing?

Hi, all, It's been a long time! I just wanted to pop in and ask if any of you have had valve replacement when you weren't symptomatic. My cardio wants to wait until I'm symptomatic again before pursuing surgery #2; I'd rather get it done while I'm still fit and healthy. Any...

Check out the American Heart Association website!

Hi, all-- It's been a while! I've been "lurking" though! Anyway, I wanted to share that there is an interesting feature on the AHA homepage titled "Stories From the Heart." Check it out! Best, Debbie :D

    John Edwards heart surgery?

Just saw this post on MSN. Whether or not you like him, seems like he is about to undergo some type of heart surgery. Notice that no one is saying exactly what kind. Here's the link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45983532/ns/us_news/t/judge-john-edwards-has-life-threatening-condition/

    Um, I'm on TV.

Hi, all! It's been a while...a lot of lurking, no posting, but I thought I'd write a quick update: A while back I told you about a FOX News segment about heart disease and depression. It finally aired, and the only reason I know that is because a friend sent me a message on Facebook to let me...

    Shunting?

Hi, all, Just got done with the angiogram on Friday, and now I will be having an MRA later this week. My cardio wants to further investigate a possible "shunting" going on somewhere; apparently he couldn't find the source during the angiogram and now wants to do the MRA to get a better picture...

    Question for the ladies...

Have any of you undergone a procedure/surgery for any reason, not just heart-related, while you are on your period? Thanks...feel like mine is about to start--EARLY!--and my angio is coming up soon.

    Breathing question--real quick!

OK, all, Sometimes, I have difficulty breathing when I am lying flat on my back in bed at night. What's up with that? Take note that my last echo turned out great (in August), and my valve has a very slight leak. The mitral valve was repaired five years ago. Thanks!

    This is just getting ridiculous!

OK, all... Maybe my heart was "celebrating" my TV debut yesterday (in case you missed it, check out: http://thedoctorstv.com/main/show_archive to see me briefly mention my valve surgery on the show), but here it what happened. My apologies if it's a little long: I woke up yesterday morning...

    How do you know?

It's not AFib, but PVCs? Since school started again a couple weeks ago, I have been feeling strangeness in my chest that I attribute to AFib, but maybe it's not. Now, I only drink decaf and limit my sugar/chocolate intake, FYI. Usually, I can feel my PVCs though they are minimal now that I'd...

    A-Fib and food?

Hey, all-- I haven't been on in a while, and thought I'd post a quick question for you: The other night, on my birthday, I ate three slices of delicious pizza ;) and a large slice of red velvet cake. I don't normally eat this way; I'm a pretty healthy eater and love salads, fruit, and...

    It's been 5, and I'm alive! June 16, 2006

Hi, all-- Just wanted to celebrate my 5th valversary with you! It's hard to believe that five years ago today, I was having my mitral valve repaired! It seems like yesterday! It's been a crazy five years, and despite all my personal struggles and cardiac adventures, I am so grateful to be...

    I really hate it when...

For those of you who have A-Fib and are on warfarin, I'm sure you can relate to this! I go to the local "Coumadin Clinic" to have my INR checked about every 3-4 weeks now that my level is well-managed. At 35 years old, I'm usually the youngest patient there. The other day I went in to have my...

    Question about coumadin and antibiotics

Hi, all-- I'm still a newbie to all this, but here's a question I have, but first, some background: I will be going in to have my teeth cleaned in about three weeks. My cardio usually prescribes Biaxin (clarithromycin), 1,000 mg. Because I am on warfarin, I do know that there is an interaction...

Depression and OHS story on the news

Hi, all-- Happy Easter! I've been "lurking" lately and haven't posted in a while, but I wanted to let you all know that FOX News (national cable channel) will be airing a segment on depression and heart surgery sometime next week, after Easter. I'm not sure what day, but I will let you know so...

    Tired on digoxin?

I'm taking 250 mcg of digoxin daily. I feel bushed all the time. It seems to keep the A-Fib at bay pretty well, but my heart rate is in the 50s and I'm lacking energy. Is it me, or is it the digoxin?
