Does anyone know a good surgeon for an aortic valve re-replacment in Venice Florida

It is not Venice but I would recommend Dr Kevin Accola at Florida Hospital in Orlando. He has a great team of people including someone always on the floor when you are in the hospital to aid in and supervise your care.

Sort of O/T Dick Cheney has heart transplant surgery

I have a friend whose brother-in-law had a heart transplant last year. She said she has never seen him so healthy! Before he was on oxygen and mostly in a wheelchair, now he runs and keeps up with her kids better than she does!

    Sternum Wires

I agree my surgeon also says those of us who are slender tend to have more problems also. However, the process of taking out the wires was super simple. I was the first case in the morning and I was home by 11 am. It was no big deal at all. I am sure if I wasn't as slender most of them...

    ISSUES with Statins

Livalo is a statin but it is new and was supposedly developed to avoid a lot of the problems the other ones had. It is great that it works for you. My husband still has some of the same problems. He didn't stay on it long enough to find out if he had all of the same problems. We were really...

Went to the EP, nervous to take these new pills

I wasn't monitored when my EP at Shands took me off Sotalol. However I do know that protocol does vary a bit on that.

    ISSUES with Statins

My husband had blood sugar, and muscle pain issues along with some strange serious allergic reactions he only has when he is taking statins. His cholesterol isn't overly high, so he is trying fish oil and chia seed. We will see what happens but the drugs aren't good for him!

    Sternum Wires

I have had most of mine taken out for a variety of reasons. The pain the wires were causing was worse than having them out! It was quick and I was home by lunchtime each time.

I want to join the US Army

It will probably depend on a lot of things but I do have a friend who is an Army nurse. She did not have a valve problem but she did have a hole in her heart and another heart problem repaired just before she was commissioned. On the other hand my husband retired from the military and I have...

    How you feel after surgery

Your surgery is exactly 1 year after mine. I remember very little of my time in the hospital but I didn't have large amounts of pain.

    Ablation scheduled

I had a somewhat successful ablation about 8 weeks ago. My problem wasn't A-fib, that I have avoided to this point. I couldn't be sedated because every time they did the arrhythmia quit. The worst part was laying still for 4 hours. My shoulder and back hurt badly from laying still but other...

Let's compare our sternums...does your's feel weird too?

I am thin also and mine feels about like Michelle describes but I did have to have two wires removed that felt very sharp to the touch. My surgeon said they probably would have been fine if I weighed as much as the "average" American....

    Red tape. . . BAH!

I had some problems with each of my doctors saying "not me". The problem was compounded by my primary care doctor retiring at the same time causing me to have to change that also! It is frustrating! = )

    Question about Multaq

Everyone has different side effects from the medicines. They do tend to get better over time. I was on Sotalol and I felt really good, the best I have felt in over a year. I had forgotten what it felt like to feel really good. Unfortunately I had insomnia and other problems so I had to quit...

    Post surgery med changes?

While I "look" healthy I was on a lot before surgery and almost 1 year later I am still on a lot but a lot of it has been a lot of trial and error with arrhythmic drugs and beta blockers that I can't take for one reason or another another. I don't have a-fib I have VT. Unfortunately I also...

    Another Teen Athlete: Enlarged Heart

We have a pediatric cardiologist who does $10 ekg for student athletes. When my girls went he listened to their hearts very carefully also for any sign of a murmur.

High School Athlete's Death: Preventable or Not?

We have a pediatric cardiology group who does an ekg for children and teens for $10. I had it done for all three of my girls as they are all athletes. They all had very normal ekgs and he spent a very long time questioning them and listening to their hearts to try to make sure they didn't have...

    Tricuspid Problems

I only had trace tricuspid regurgitation when my mitral valve was bad. Since my MV was repaired my TV has also had varying mild to moderate regurgitation.

Your post-surgery Afib--worse when you recline?

Thank you for the suggestion but yes, my new EP has been VERY vigilant at checking both my potassium and magnesium. In fact they check them weekly and keep them on the high side of normal because of the sotalol. I had some tachycardia problems for a few years prior to my surgery but it has...

Your post-surgery Afib--worse when you recline?

I don't have A-Fib I have somewhat frequent short runs of VT. I definately think mine is worse later in the day. I usually feel pretty good in the morning, then I feel it more in the afternoon and evening into the night. I am on sotalol but even after 2 months I am not tolerating it well so...

    flutter or af

I was on bisoprilol, but it didn't work well and it took my bp too low. It didn't cause me any problems except the low bp (80/45 ish). I have also been on sotalol but while it worked well and I felt pretty good on it I had side effects my EP didn't like so now I'm having an EP study with...
