    Reagents and Coagucheck XS

Didn't want to hijack the other home testing thread so I wanted start this one to ask about reagents. I called Roche customer support to ask about the difference I'm seeing between the lab and the meter I got about 5 weeks ago. They were very help full and they are sending me strips form a...

    INR level for small procedure

I have a cyst on my back that I would like to have removed. My Kaiser doctor sent me to a surgery center to talk to a surgeon. Last time I had one removed it was done by a dermatologist and it was long before warfarin. But I guess that's the way Kaiser does it. Anyways, The surgeon wants me to...

    2 year aniversary

It snuck right by me a few days ago. I guess it's a great thing that I'm barely thinking about it. Here's hoping that everyone does as well. Gary

INR testing with different medical insurance.

I have been insured with Kaiser Permanente since my AVR surgery. I love the way they handle INR testing. I stop in the lab at the clinic in the morning. Later that afternoon I can see my results on line. Then I get an email from my guy at the coumadin clinic telling me what to do. I have...

    Lipitor and Cuomadin

Hi All, AVR about a year and a half ago. Mechanical valve and taking coumadin. Did really well for over a year. Work out every day and enjoy life. Don't worry much about what I eat or drink and always tested in range (2.0-3.0). A few months back my doc decides I should take lipitor because even...

    Another six month check up.

Hi All, It's been a little over six months since my aortic valve and root replacement. Got a CT scan last Monday and saw my new Cardio on Friday. She said all looked good. I told her I stopped my BP meds and she said no problem BP is fine. My INR has been steady. And I feel good. Gary

    Pulled a muscle water skiing

Not sure if this belongs under active lifestyles or anti-coagulation. Bur anyway, two weeks ago Saturday I decided to try water skiing again for the first time since surgery 5 months ago. I learned to single ski in 1967 so this is not new to me. I've been hitting the gym a lot and felt pretty...

    scar pics 12 weeks

Here's a pic of my scar at 12 weeks or so. As I mentioned in another post it seems to be healing from the top down. Now that the weather is getting better it's hard to keep it out of the sun.

    Already 4 weeks between tests

So I'm seven weeks post op tomorrow (May 8th). I tested 2.5 two weeks ago and 2.4 today. My range is 2-3. My coumadin guy has me at 4 weeks until my next test. Is this a little early to be that long between tests? Gary

    magnesium and coumadin

Before my surgery one of my regular supplements was 400mg of magnesium a day. Good for lots of stuff including reducing calcification. I would like to start taking it again but I'm finding conflicting info on line about it's interaction with coumadin. I will be checking with my coumadin clinic...

    Went to the gym today.

I was just tired of walking around my neighborhood so I thought I would try the gym. I got in about 35 minutes on a precore machine. Got my heart rate up to about 115. Tried to work on some core exercises but my sternum said stop. I'l try again on Monday morning I think.

    Beta Blockers and romance

I have been on Metoprolol since I left the hospital a little over 3 weeks ago. Now that I am feeling mostly pretty good I'm starting to notice that the metoprolol slows my interest in most things including romance. I know it's still a little early but that's the way I am. I was on it about a...

4 days of rain in the forcast

With 4 days of rain in the forcast I won't be getting in my 2 walks per day. Should I try going to the gym and using an elipticle trainer? Or just wait it out on the sofa?

    Night sweats

Anybody find that they now wake up sweating in the middle of the nigh. Since I got home I wake up sweating or at least kind of clammy. The house is not hot and the blankets aren't heavier then I usually use. It just seems like my internal thermostat is off a little. Gary

    Eleven days after.

Hi All, So I discovered this forum the other day. I had AVR with ascending aorta on March 20th. I came home Monday afternoon and I can't believe the progress that I am making and how much better I feel. I was first diagnosed about 18 months ago and the doctor sort of made it sound like it was...
