Any advise or insight as to how strict the 'recommended' allowances for wine or liquor are?

I was told 500 ml of wine per day was the limit - but what happens if you had 750ml?

500 ml (about 15 oz) per day is a fair amount of wine. 750 ml (nearly 23 oz) is more than a fair amount per day -- that is if you drink it every day.

When I have wine, I drink about 4-8 oz (112-224 ml). Any more than that, I become a little dehydrated, which increases my INR if I don't compensate by drinking gallons of water.
It can also cause you to do some pretty darned silly things, like dance on tabletops wearing nothing but a lampshade. :D I need to buy some new lampshades since mine were damaged in a wild office party I threw about 36 years ago. ;)

Seriously, there is no absolute guidelines on how much alcohol to drink. Many of us do enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail (mmmmmmmmmmm margaritas and martinis!), but we also want to avoid getting so inebriated that we fall, hit our head and get a subdural hematoma.

Moderation is the key. The main problem with alcohol and INR is that alcohol dehydrates you (if you have too much) and your INR will rise. (I had a run-in with some Cosmopolitans a few New Year's Eves ago and pulled an INR over 7, 2 days later ) When out with friends - I limit myself to 2. But then I'm a cheap date when it comes to alcohol. ;)

Got Wine????

Got Wine????

How much wine you can drink without messing-up your INR is individual because it is affected by things like your body size and metabolic rate. The amount of alcohol in wine often varies by type and winery. My cooler contains wine containing anywhere from 3% to 17%.

On those rare occasions when I feel I might have overdone the alcohol thing I just test my INR and adjust my meds.

Yes, we can all offer advice based upon our experiences, but you'll probably discover your own tolerances and comfort level. Just approach the drinking thing with your version of common sense and see where it takes you.

I give it a 9! I love those things....... a bit too much actually!

Get the Extra Spicy Clamato and forget about adding the salt, Lime Tabasco Sauce
and the Worcestershire Sauce - its already in there. Too much yum in one bottle ;)

I too say its a 9.

I will have 1-2 small glasses of wine or a shot or two of Bourbon sometimes and it has never done anything to upset my INR that I have noticed. 750ml of wine...now that would be a whole bottle!...I think you need to find someone to share it with or cork it and finish it off over a few days. I have done that and again it didnt mess with the inr.

Erm, I have never found that alcohol does anything at all to my INR... and I have given it some serious testing!

But, if I lose or gain as little as 5kg I have to adjust my dose. Very annoying. I have stacked it on lately, probably gained 5kg since I had to give up my job, and my INR went from 3.1 to 1.8 in 6 weeks  So up with the dose again. Antibiotics send it sky high, but I haven't found anything food wise that makes any difference. It is different for everyone.
