After sitting here staring at the walls all morning because they told us the hospital did not have wireless internet, we just found out they did, so here I am!

We just got another update from the OR a little bit ago. The new valve is in place & they are starting on the quadruple bypass. They said it would probably be a few more hours before another update & it would be after they get him off the machine & get his heart beating again before they call again.

So far...So good!

We got another update around 4pm...both the new valve & the quadruple bypass have been done. Dad is off the heart machine & his heart is beating on its own now. They were making sure there were no bleeds then would be closing him up.

Good news!. Take a deep breath, it is almost all done. Remember to take care of your self cause you dad is gonna need lots of phyical and moral support in the next few weeks. I'm praying for you.

The surgeon finally came out to see us. According to him, dad's Mitral valve was in alot worse shape than shown by the TEE. His words were "it was completely blown". He also said his heart was enlarged & the tissues looked extremely aged. He compared it to that of an 80 year old.

Dad is also having some extremely heavy oozing that if not gotten under control, they will have to go back in.

He will be kept sedated until around midnite tonight then they will start bringing him back around. Hopefully, they will also remove him from the vent tomorrow morning.

2 hours later, after we were told 45 minutes before we could see him, I finally had to start raising a little bit of a ruckus wanting to know why we knew nothing & still could not see him & we finally get to see him. THERE ARE COMPLICATIONS...

Something about BP being too low & Pulmonary artery psi too high...it isn't looking good at the moment!

So sorry to hear things haven't gone as smoothly as they could have. Hoping they can get these complications sorted out and your dad can start to mend soon.

((((Hugs)))) to you and your family. Sending best wishes your way.

I remember my cardio telling me that I had the heart of an "80 year old".
And my first night there was blood oozing all down my side.
My point is that I survived, and I'm sure the docs will fix up your Dad.
Best wishes....:)

Please know that he is in a very good place where they are used to dealing with problems. After the long day that you've all had, this is the last thing you need. Hopefully, they will get things under control soon and he will start doing better. Please keep us posted.

I sure wish the oozing was our biggest problem...now it is the increaswd pulmonary artery pressure.

The surgeon and pulmonary specialist said the 24 hours will be critical. They also said this valve should have been replaced a couple of years ago.

I will update when we know more...

Did he have pulmonary hypertension before or is this a new thing? Did they check for this before surgery? Just curious. I know that it is probably not going to help, but I hope you can all get some rest tonight.
