What are my chances on having an aneurysm? Either around my heart or any place else?
I do have a mechanical valve in the Mitral position - if that makes any difference?
Lets be truthful about this, cause I don't need any more shock treatments like I had 22 months ago when I found out I needed OHS.

Thanks

Being a mitral valve patient does not give you a higher chance of an aneurysm over the general populace (like with BAV patients).

Duff, what kind of scan is best?
I would have thought that during my heart cath they might have noticed if there was anything amiss?
My enlarged root was mentioned to me, but not on my report....

CT or MRI, take your pick. It really depends on what kind of equipment the facility has. The places around here have better CT scanning equipment and software, but when I went to Chicago for a 15th opinion they preferred MRI. Either or is capable.

One negative attribute to CT scan is that it emits ionizing radiation - MRI does not.

Freddie, you are a silly goose (but we all lu ya, anyways) ! If you hadn't had that bad valve replaced, chances are you wouldn't be here now to worry about anything else. So, go find a rose and smell it - I mean be thankful for the time you have, and enjoy it! Life was not really made for "what if"s.

There is a history of brain aneurysm in our family, and when I brought that up with my surgeon (a reason for maybe getting a tissue valve), he pointed to my then 73 year old mother, fit as a fiddle, never had a headache in her life, and said he felt the gene had skipped her, so I should be OK. I don't usually give it a second thought (except I fell on the porch the other day, and between my "bloodthinners" and my osteoporosis, all I could thing was "oh, my blood! oh, my bones! and DON'T HIT YOUR HEAD !!!!!!!!"

Well thanks Jeanette, but all the roses around here are frozen ;), but after reading a different thread just made me think if this could happen to me.

Read the threads, Freddie, but do not dwell or reflect them how to affect you. I went through this a couple of weeks ago and asked myself the same, what if my valve is not the right one? what if my bicuspid and pulmonaric reg becomes worse? but, my dear, we shall go crazy if we continue doing that. Once is OK, but get it out of you and enjoy the moment. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow may not be ours, we only own this moment...the present. Make the best out of it and live it. Look up Rich's signature about how life is measured...do something other than thinking about annurysm!

(((Hugs))) :)

I agree with Gina. At least in this regard, those of us with mitral valve issues are the lucky ones. We're no more at risk than the healthy guy on the next treadmill over who inhabits my dreams!

I knew it, sex is on your mind, at least part time. :D

Ross, quit editing posts dude! Hahahahaha.

No really. If there's anything ambiguous at all for me I push for answers. It sounds like you have a question mark looming over you with the aortic root thing.
