been away most weekend as Chels my daughter said her 9 year old

got up at 5am Thursday morning with terrible headache.

Landed in hospital fri morning and told she has worst case of strep throat

going around here, ohhhhhhhhh i felt soooo helpless,as she ran a fever till

today it broke and she has a red throat but no blisters, ended up giving

her eye infection in both eyes and blood infection and urine infection.

The fun part of this strep was no warning no fever no throat complaints till

Chelsey said Thursday 5 am when she woke up to tell her mom she had a

headache and a present fever was soooo high.

She is on very high antibiotics and home now, although will have to be

taken back for observations and yep i'm now on antibiotics to precaution

myself of anything as i wait for my surgery, and cus iv'e been around her and hospital.Never did she complain of a sore throat or anything.:(

I'm just shocked at how fast it hit her and how there was no warning prior.

Yes u can say a little prayer for shantal as she is very weak

and listless

and on strong antibiotics, that just wreck her day.:(

So far fever has gone:)

I pray that your granddaughter gets well soon. Strep throat if left untreated, can wreck havoc on a person.....that's where all my troubles began 35 years ago.

Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in & fight off the strep infection & she'll be good as new soon enough!

You take care too as you don't need to get yourself sick with anything like this either!

strep throat is the cause of reheumatic fever, as far as I have been able to find out on the internet, so take care of yourself, first, Deb ! Don't want you getting anything that might jeopardize your surgery date.

Maybe you should try and avoid people right now so you don't catch anything nasty. I was babysitting my friend's daughter once when I noticed spots as she was getting ready for school. I said I would keep her home until lunchtime, when her mother would be back, and the poor kid just burst into tears. Turns out her "very-bestest-friend-in-the-whole-world" had been off with chickenpox the week before, and she was just desperate to see her. So, there I am, 40 years old, never had chickenpox, and half of me wants to run away as fast as I can, and th other half is saying "TOO LATE - go give the kid a hug"! The "too late" half was right, I showed my first spots 10 days later, and went downhill rapidly from there!

So, everyone, be warned, by the time the symptoms appear, it is too late to protect yourself - in most cases!

I hope that she is starting to feel better already. Strep is nothing to fool around with. It is what caused many of us to end up with the valve problems that brought us to this board.

Deb ~ My best wishes and prayers for Shantal. Hopefully, the antibiotics will do their job and she will be better soon. I'm really not sure how contagious it is, but it's a good thing you're taking antibiotics too just in case.

Yes it is going around. I hope it stays far away from me! Hope she does fine in the end. It's nasty.

Thank-you everyone and shantal is home to stay:)

No school yet and she is weak from all the symptoms and fever

she endured, honestly how many of us as stated on the board

did get this to cause our valve replacements........me too and i

tell you it's sad to watch alittle girl as we know how we felt at

the time when we had it.

It sure brought back memories for me to see her soooo sick

darn thing strep though she ate, played and had no symptoms

till she woke up. Yes janette its playin safe with me yet and I

pray i don't get it but like it is going around fast, hard and mean

in our town, hardly no warning and i have kept my hands in wash

and sanitizer round my neck in small bottles and all i can do is

pray now i don't get it.......

So far soooooooo GOOD.

Deb,

Glad Shantal is better, but will keep her in my prayers. Take good care of her as this strep was the reason behind my rheumatic heart problems.

With lots of prayers to both of you and your families,:)

NB: Is that Shantal in the photo?! Very cute and lovely.

Hi Deb, Sorry to hear of your lil sweety's illness but very glad to hear she's better. I hope the antibiotics you're taking will build a strong enough wall that the bugs can't get through to you.

I had scarlet fever when I was 5 and this is also a virulent form of strep. It was no fun and apparently, I also developed Scarletina afterwards because of the high fever. I think this, combined with genetics is why I wear glasses and what caused my bicuspid valve to fail a little earlier than otherwise. Thank goodness for medical advancements or I figure I'd have been dead at least 4 times over before my valve stenosed enough to notice.
