Question. I have always heard that pain and or discomfort on the left side or in the left arm is a possible sign of a heart issue. Does this go for the right side as well?

Thanks

Freddie, I married a pain in the neck.....OMG not nice.
Cooker: My left arm has had occasional episodes of numbness, but I'm hoping that it is possibly nerve related.
Nothing on my right arm though.

General pain can mean a host of things. Generally, heart pain is more apt to be on the left side, arm, even shoulder, although it can be in the back, the neck or throat, the center, or the jaw. Gall bladder pain can be on the left, too. Lower right is more appendix. Anywhere can be gas or other digestive issues. Rib pains, sometimes quite severe and usually quite distinct in terms of location, can show up suddenly some time after surgery.

It's unlikely you'll be able to self-diagnose without very specific and repeatable pain.

Best wishes,

Thanks Bob .... It is happens on both sides but more so on the left ... it is not really pain as much as it is heavy feeling and when it happens there is a general feeling of weakness ... it is confined to the shoulder and arm and never happens on both sides at the same time ... I go for my INR check Monday and will ask my cardiologist when there.

Cooker - hon - should be checked out - don't be a stubborn chimp.;):D;)

Cooker, you need to get checked out, you know better. Don't let a bad hair day get in the way.;)

Cooker, can you take your finger and pin point the pain? If you can I was told its a mussel.
I get the same weakness type feeling, but after stretching it seems to be better.
The doc reminded me of how important it is to stretch because little nerves and mussels tend to tighten up and cause this kind of pain.
This is only my experience, but please do get it looked at. Make sure you comb your hair first ;)

Cooker, can you think of anything that you might have done to maybe tire out the arm?
Yard work, sleeping on it, stretching for something, etc.

LOL;)

No. And it does not seem to happen at any particular time. It feels almost like a BP drop but different ... I know I'm no help but hope fully the cardio will have the answer.

Well, first of all, I had to open this thread because when I saw the topic it reminded me of a poll that we took in college to find out if guys placed their "members" on the left, right, middle, or wherever it lands.

Since it is serious though, I will tell you that I've had similar feelings. I mentioned it to the doctor and he said it could be a nerve or it could be something I ate (MSG can do that), but it was probably not my heart (tests didn't show anything) or a muscle (symptoms aren't right). See the doctor, Cooker, just in case.

By the way, left won the poll. ;) Middle and Wherever it lands seemed to horrify most guys.

Cooker, I'm glad you are going to get this checked out and hope the answer is benign.

Cooker, I'm glad to know you're going to get it checked out. It may be that you ate one too many bananas but it's better to be safe than sorry! :)

Best wishes friend!
:)

Cooker,

in my case, when I eat salted food more than my usual intake, my left arm becomes numb during that night and feels heavy and there is pain the next day.

As said before, check it out to be on the safe side and hope it is nothing.:)

Did you tangle yourself from a tree with your left arm?[/[/COLOR]:D;)

Okay, man, if you have persisting pain down the side, you are going to get it checked out right away, and not wait til Monday, right? Heart Assn says symptoms can be either left OR right side, so don't tarry if there's the chance something is going on.
