I LIVE IN BUFORD, GA. AND WORK IN ATLANTA, GA
Well, It is 1130 on 07-16-08.This time last week I had been given a "HAPPY SHOT":D to "RELAX" me and have a vague memory of knowing I was going to be prepped. the next thing I remember is a disembodied voice saying it was about 7pm on the night of the surgery. I also remember a very annoying guy next to me in CICU that was giving the nurses hell. I guess i was chewing on the ET Tube but I didn't cause many other problems. The nurses were so turned off by the other guy that once the TUBE was out and I could speak, I was having to yell at them to get their attention. I even remember a nurse saying, "OH, I thought it was the other guy". Don't know how long I was in CICU but I guess I went to a room pretty quickly. OK, just asked the wife and she said it was 10:30 am the next day. TOTALLY don't remember that! Anyway, Day one PO was a blur. :confused:The remaining were increasingly less blurry. My son came home from visiting family in N.C. on SUNDAY and I got out on Tues at about 630pm. So, now I am home and have a computer I can use. I can say that my shoulder PAIN is gone with or without meds and it's now just discomfort. WOW, just came back from a LITTLE walk outside with my wife and it seems like miles and miles. So, now I get to sit home, read, watch TV, play TETRIS, and keep walking. I MADE IT OVER THE MOUNTAIN!:D I don't know how many STUPID mistakes I have made in creating this post. So is that :confused:PUMPHEAD?:confused:
Dr said all went well, I had a VERY hard sternum to cut through, the root was 21mm and fairly thick and straight. The On-X Valve was only 23 mm but that is what I took. The scar is only 3.5 to 4 inches long. as he does a "less invasive" surgery. Food is starting to taste better. It started with a Plum last night at home. (i am amazed how hospitals can even mess up fruit)
Thanks to ALL of you for the prayers and thoughts. I was full of questions when this started and I got to the starting line full of knowledge. you are all great! I know the best is yet to come. I told Dr. WOLFE'S office about VR.COM as well as the NURSE MGR. at the hospital, who said she would pass it on to the education dept. Gotta go eat now and perhaps a nap.

Thanks again:)

Glad to hear from you & happy to hear that you're finally home! Now just take time to heal ---- rest when you feel like it, eat & just enjoy each & every day! :)

Wishing you a wonderful recovery! :)

Apparently some people come out of anesthesia with some aggression. When I was in the Step Down Unit one man was literally tied down and sedated. He was not only yelling he was starting to become physical in a small room with 6 beds in it...I was so glad to get out of there.
Enjoy your new freedom!

Sounds like your on a great road to recovery. Glad your home and can eat some good food. Give your wife a hug for that. You just take it easy and EAT, WALK,
& RELAX.. Keep up the good work.....

Eat, sleep, walk, breath. Those are your only jobs for a while. Food is going to suck for a while yet, but one day the old taste buds will kick in, then look out! :D

I am so glad you are through the wilderness. I too came throughjust fine. My surgery is was on friday 7-11-08 and I just got released from the hospital yesterday and last night was horrible to sleep. The pain is HORRIBLE, but i am a whimp. I had a breakdown this morning because I saw the incision in the mirror and where the tubes were. my mom gave me a right kick in the bum and said you are hear to see that incision and everything else and that my dear is a blessing in itself. Plus, my husband is still attracted to me so that is good. I just told him that i dont want him to look at me for at least 6 weeks!!! i am sorry for venting, i am glad you got through the wilderness and this is the first step to recovery.

take care

Aja

We were waiting to hear from you! :) Are you sure you weren't the guy giving the nurses hell and just don't remember LOL :) Seriously we are all very glad you are on the road to recovery and wish you a speedy uneventfull road. Take care and Keep in touch!

So glad all went well and you are home, sweet home. Keep up the walks- they are the most important thing and have an uneventful recovery. I know you will come back here and help the other newbies too!

Every day gets better. The shoulder pain does suck, I still get it from time to time otherwise just take it easy for a while the worst is over (once you can drive again).

Awesome your home! Sheepdog,
Now just take care of yourself and don't try to
do too much, even if you feel good. Some good advise from
other post's here EAT,DRINK,REST.
Most importantly stay off the bike(joking) sure you won't.
Glad you made it through the wilderness and you and your
family are over that mountain top.

Thanks All

Nervous, glad to hear you don,t have anything to be nervous about any more. You are there! Wasn't there someone else scheduled for the 9th? How did that turn out? I am surprised Nervous is online so quickly. I stayed 6 days and I guess that is pretty long but I sure took advantage of it. now I am sitting (and sleeping) in my recliner and taking it easy.
Thanks again all

Wooo hooo! Congrats!

Enjoy the view from this side of the mountain.

Best wishes on an uneventful recovery.

Peace,
Ruth

p.s. Your foggy memory of the CICU is pretty much like mine, most of the time passed in a daze. And yes, hospitals CAN even ruin fruit!
