Three years ago tomorrow, SUPERBOB didn't seem invincible at all. He was lying on a medical table, his wife and son hovering around him for a goodbye (temporary or final, he didn't know), preparing to be wheeled into an operating room.
Oh heck, let's cut out that silly third-person stuff. I had agonized for weeks after getting the news that my time for this serious surgery had come. I had confronted my mortality, gotten my will in order, written notes to family members to be read after my demise (just in case), patted my dog going out the door for the trip to the hospital not knowing if we would ever share a walk again, and of course agonized thoroughly over my choice of valve type.
The people I met on here (many of whom are still here) were angels. I don't know how I could have gotten through this without them.
Anyway, this weekend, I will be celebrating the third anniversary of my life-altering aortic valve and root replacement. My wife and I will enjoy prime rib and some decadent dessert. Superdog and I will take a long walk on the Cherry Blossom Trail. I will play with the grandkid who is nearby and call the others who live farther away and tell them I soon will play with them. And I will go to church and give thanks to the Good Lord for my having these extra years of life in this world, whether I deserve them or not.
It is a happy valversary indeed. I am enjoying my third re-birthday!
