My wife and I will be attending most of the activities; but, naturally, we will not be staying in the hotel. We live in Orlando and will drive to the hotel or location for each event. We look forward to meeting all of you.

Since you live there, please tell everyone about Orlando weather in February, day and night weather. I lived in Orlando once upon a time and I know, but most of our attendees don't. How about a heads up for all. Tks.

Ann,

It is a little difficult to be perfectly precise with a forecast for Orlando in late February.

February is generally the driest month of the year here. Expect rain only in unusual circumstances (which, of course, is possible). Don?t even consider snow.

If there are no strange super-cold fronts from up north, it is generally in the mid-70s for a daytime temperature and mid-50s at night in February. Those nasty arctic cold fronts do occur occasionally -- we had one about 10 days ago, when we went below freezing (30°) for one night, then back up into normal range just a few days later. That was our first below-freezing night in the past 5 years.

Occasional cool or warm spells could give you temps in the mid- to upper-40s at night or the low- to mid-80s in the daytime. Again, that would probably last for only 2-3 days and then back to normal (75/55 for late Feb).

Hope that helps.

Unfortunately, it looks like I will not be able to attend after all:( :( :( . 99% of the time my work schedule is pretty flexible but not this time. Something came up today that shot my schedule to crude.

Flying in on the 6th!

Flying in on the 6th!

I will actually be flying to Orlando on the 6th.

The shuttle launch is scheduled for the 7th and after 25 years of waiting to see one, I am hoping to finally make it happen.

If it launches on the 7th as scheduled, then I will come home that next weekend and fly back to Orlando on the 20th with my wife and daughter.

If it is delayed for any reason, then I am prepapred to stay there for up to 2 and a half weeks to make sure that I see it.

It's never too late to decide to go and join us!!

See everyone there!

Reunion 2008

Reunion 2008

Hi Everyone
Be a little down lately. Mike & I will be there to get away form this terrible
weather. We will be there for 5 days. We lucked out and got a direct flight to orlando! I haven't sent any money for the dinner, Hank what should I do.

Sherrin,

It will be great to see you again. You should probably e-mail Hank directly or send him a private message. Otherwise, you can follow the directions and go to http://www.valvereplacement.com/contributions.htm The dinner is listed as $55 per person.

Hank,
if your planning on seeing a launch, go to 'Jetty Park' at/in Cape Canaveral. Its about 2 miles away from the launch pad and you will be able to see and FEEL everything. There's a large dock that goes out into the ocean, so bring a heavy sweater and get there 1 hour at least before launch time. The park charges like $5.00, and the park will close once it gets too full. Bring binoculars and a police scanner if you have one, you can tune into the control tower or better yet stand beside someone who already has one.
This is one opportunity you don't want to miss.

Jetty Park for A Shuttle Launch

Jetty Park for A Shuttle Launch

I did some checking into being able to see a launch from Jetty Park as suggested.

Apparently, the close that area down now for launches.

I even saw one place that looked pretty official that it is now considered a\ danger spot by the homeland security department because it is so close.

I have tickets to go to the NASA Causeway which is about the closest I will be able to get.

Either way - I am starting to get really excitied about fulfilling a lifelong dream of mine....

That's a wonderful thing to do, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Good for you. You deserve it.

Good luck on watching the launch. We went down to see one when the girls were younger. When My oldest was younger she wanted to be an astronaut. She went to Space Camp and was in a club when she was in Jr. high.

there used to be a building about a mile away where people could observe. You could also take a bus ride from there through the actual site but I'd bet that's long gone since 9/11. You will never forget this, Hank. Say a prayer for them as they lift off.

yes - It will be awesome.

The 1 mile away spot is near the vehicle assembly building by the big official launch clock that you always see on TV. That area is only for press and big wigs.

I will be about 5 and a half miles away.

But still close enough to shake my bones..

Launch is 3 days and 6 hours away :) :D
