Hi Gang,

Just wanted to let yall know that I had my surgery, and they couldn't find the stone, so I am going in to have lithotripsy here in about a week or two instead....What an aweful time I had trying to tell the nurses at the hospital that I was ordered by my doctor to do my own insulin and NOT them due to the way I take it....they gave me miniscule amounts and couldn't figure out why my blood sugar went to almost 400, when I had told them 5 times that Dr. Tung (My Diabetes Dr.) had instructed me to do my own insulin shots while in the hospital....It was like talking to a brick wall...anyway, I am home, and not happy about having to still contend with these stones, but at least I am not in as much pain as I was when I had my big stone done 2 years ago...Well, I am off to take a nap as I am still really drowsy and not feeling all that hot...Talk with yall later, and I am sorry about venting, I am just frustrated and angry at the nurses....Harrybaby:eek: :eek:

I'm sorry this didn't go as well as planned.
I hope when you have the lithotripsy that will end your discomfort.

Sorry to hear that all didn't go as planned while you were in the hospital. Just glad you are home now. Try not to stress and get some rest so you can enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

brother had the lithotripsy. He wasn't crazy about it at all, mostly because they gave him the shot to block pain from waist down and he couldn't feel his legs. That was his only complaint coming out of it. At least it got rid of that stone.
 
I was expecting to hear a good report. Ah well, I guess not. Sorry for another road block in your road to recovering your health. Hope you rest well and get this taken care of soon.

Harry I know what you mean. Chris's surgeon was great at giving verbal orders and NO ONE wrote them on paper, not even him, so it was always BATTLE with the nurses over something that he ordered, but never put on written orders. That is the Doctors fault!

That is negligence - in my opinion!!

Harry - Sorry to hear that you didn't get the results and had a not-so-pleasant stay. Hang in there and hopefully you will get results in a week or two.
 
Geesh.. I hate that constant battle in the hospital.. I had to be on constant alert myself b/c someone was always trying to give me a narcotic..which I am allergic too.. Nothing like being your own best Advocate!

Sorry to hear about the whole ordeal.. Hopefully now you can rest up and that the rest of the process not be too difficult for you.

Hi Harry, Sorry things did not go well for you this time round. Let's hope that the Lithotropsy works and without too much difficulty. Do you have to stay in the hospital for that? Sure hope not, but if you do, get that doctor to WRITE his orders. Wow, that is awful that he didn't do that.

A Floor Nurse will ONLY do as they are told. You've got to go up the ladder to effect any hanges, aand even then, without WRITEN ORDERS (or verbal orders from one of THEIR Doctors, NOO EXEEPTIONS will be granted.

Your best approach would have been to ask the Charge Nurse or Patient Advocate to contact your Diabetes Doctor. Hospitals are all about CYA!

I told them 3 times to call my endocrinologist, and they-including the dr that was holding me there, the anestesiologist, refused to call him until I pitched a real fit....and then they bent only a little. Dr. Tung had told me that if I had any problems like this, to have them call him, but they were refusing to do so.....Harrybaby
 
Harry I'm so sorry that you are still feeling bad. If I was there I would give you a big hug. Prayers are still coming your way that you will get some relief in the very near future. I hope you can enjoy Thanksgiving.

Understand. Maybe YOU should have called your endicrubikigust and asked HIM to call the Doctor overseeing your case at the hospital.

Hospital staff (including Doctors it seems) HATE it when the patient knows more about what they need than they do.

I was recently in my local hospital for an invasive procedure. They gave me Lovenox BEFORE the procedure but REFUSED to administer it AFTER the procedure until I threatened to "Rattle the Cages" 24 hours post procedure.

FINALLY they called my primary cardiologist who immediately said, YES, resume Lovenox. My plan? Call my primary cardiologist and ask him to give the order to resume Lovenox. So you can see, I DO understand your plight!

I forgot to mention, that a few months back, when I saw Dr. Tung last, I mentioned this "order" to him and asked him to put one in place, and this is where he told me to "just have them call him", so I do believe that this was mostly his fault as he didn't follow through with it, but it's like you said, "the nurses and doctors at the hospital don't like it when I know more about what I need than they do"...also, I would have called him myself, but the recovery room I was in had no telephone, and they wouldn't let me use my cell phone in the hospital...I share your frustration...Thanks alot for the tips, and encouraging words.
