There have been a lot of postings recently concerning Bridging, Elective, and Invasive procedures. Quite a few of the postings are from newer members not around in 2004 when my father, Warren K Mead had his stroke following an elective screening colonoscopy. I sent a pm to Ross and he agreed that it would be a good idea to resurect the threads. For those of you not familiar with the events that took place leading up to my father's stroke and after the stroke, please take the time and read the following threads. Don't let the posts scare you let them empower you to take charge of your anticoagulation management and hopefully prevent a devastating stroke. The threads are lengthy but should be read by all.

Dear Warren,

Gosh, I really don't know what to say except that I am so sorry for the devasting events that led to your father's death. What a tragedy & even more so, because it could have been avoided if the doctors involved in his case would have been more knowledgeable on coumadin & the deadly outcome it can have if a patient is not monitored properly.

After reading your posts, I had been considering going in for a colonoscopy but I already have a mal-functioning artificial Mitral valve (ball-in-cage type -- called Cooley/Cutter valve in my case). I am also semi-recovering from a 3rd OHS in 2006 for the re-replacement of my Aortic artificial valve (St. Jude this time) so with all this said, an elective colonoscopy is probably the least of my worries!

Thanks so much for posting the information again. Your Dad is never far from my thoughts when I read posts about a physician's lack of ACT management knowledge. It's very frustrating for me to continue to read the stories, it has to be extremely sad for you.
