Nancy,
I'm glad to hear that things are a little more positive regarding Joe's condition. I know this has been a very difficult time for you both. I hope things continue to improve.

Take Care!
Gail

Nancy,
I recall one of the senior nurses in the cardiac ICU telling me that two of the best signs a patient is recovering are improved color and an appetite. Sounds like Joe is getting back on track!

Hang in there!

Center your thoughts

Center your thoughts

Center your private thoughts on Joe getting better. Concentrate on that and don't let the dark things that dwell on the side push their way in. I know it is hard but it is doable. I have been a psychologist for 30+ years and have witnessed people living through terrible times and coming out strong and vibrant. It is hard but judging from what you shared of the past I can see you have the strength.
I am a rookie and dont know if there is a protocol for responding. Please take my response as supportive. Bob

Nancy, if anybody here is entitled to a miracle, you and your hubby are high on the list. Your support to all of us is immeasurable. We pray for your continued good news.

Don't forget, ". . . whenever two or more of us are gathered in His name. . ."

Hi Nancy

You are and will continue to be in our prayers. I'm so glad Joe is doing better. One of my old emt instructors once said, "Whatever works, works!!" I've never forgotten it and used it often when on a call. I'm so glad whatever they're giving to Joe is working.

You will stay in our prayers till he's out and home. Please remember the wonderful advice you've always given us here at VR---you have to take care of YOURSELF, too, or you can't do your best for Joe.

Thinking of and praying for you both.

Evelyn

Hi Nancy,

I'm so sorry to hear that Joe has had to struggle through so much over this holiday period, but am glad to hear he's in good care and responding well to treatment. Returned appetite is always a very encouraging sign!

You and Joe continue to be in my prayers.

Hi Nancy, I didn't know that Joe was in the hospital, but now that I have read your second update, I feel much better. It does help a lot when you are in a hospital with specialists. It reassures us as the patients and the family members as well. Don't worry about the swan ganz cath...I've had 3 in 1 year, they are a little uncomfortable going in, but not too bad after that. It's hard to sit in the room though, that's what I hated about the swan. I was stuck in the room, and wanted cafeteria food...not hospital food! You and Joe will be in my thoughts, and I hope he gets well soon. Keep up a positive attitude, and it will help Joe keep his spirits up!

hi nancy!
just returned last night and found your post this morning.....although, as you said, it's unofficial news,
i am so glad to see that joe is getting his color back and that things seem to be heading in the right direction.
sounds like you are in an amazing facility and they are taking special care of your joe.
i hope that he continues to feel better with each passing day and that the docs finally get the chf and pulmonary problems under control with some really effective meds.
you are in all our thoughts and prayers.
wishing you all the best, sylvia

They have moved Joe out of the super intensive care unit to the cardiac (surgery) floor. Right now they are trying to wean him off the IV Lasix to the pill form. They're doing a bolus IV 3 times a day, instead of the drip, and I guess will graduate to pills if everything is working OK. I'm not sure how well it's working, because he asked for oxygen last night, and he gained a pound overnight. So that needs a little adjustment.

Over the weekend they don't do much testing, but on Monday, they will be doing another pulmonary test. His nuclear lung scan showed some abnormalities and they want to get to the bottom of that problem. Apparently lung problems can contribute to high pressures in the heart and lungs. So for those who don't think heart and lungs are closely married, they are dependent on each other.

I suspect he'll be "incarcerated" to at least midweek. That's OK, though, because I don't want to take him home with half a diagnosis.

I have nothing concrete to report yet. It still seems to be in the testing and monkeying around with drugs phase.

Thanks for keeping us informed Nancy. We are all very concerned about Joe and hope he feels better soon. He is in the right place and the docs will get to the bottom of this.

Take Care!

Nancy, thank you for taking time to let us know how things are going. You are always in my prayers. Please give Joe our love and keep some for you. Try to get rest. Love Ann

Hi Nancy

You are still in my prayers, along with Joe. I'm sure they'll get to the bottom of it, and you're right, better that he stays there till they've sorted everything out.

Prayers are with you.

Keep Joe there. It would have been awful if he were at home when your power went off....You need the extra help now. Thinking of you and Joe. Bonnie:) :)

~Hi Nancy

~Hi Nancy

I've just returned home after being away for the Holidays and was disappointed to see that you and Joe have had a rough time of it lately ...please send him my best wishes for a speedy recovery and I hope that you are doing okay too because I know that illness can be just as hard on the nearest and dearest . Please take care ,both of you and know that you are in my prayers.

I like the phrases Nancy used on the heart and lungs: closely married and dependent on each other. Very well described!!
