I have read somewhere on this sight about some tapes that you can watch prior to surgery that could possibly help with pain and recovery. I just can't find it. Can someone refresh me?
You should listen to some "Guided Imagery". Guided Imagery includes a soothing voice and music that takes you through various scenarios to relieve stress, help you cope, and reassure you. You can find some free Guided Imagery sessions at: http://members.kaiserpermanente.org/redirects/listen/
My medical center provided me with several Guided Imagery CDs prior to my surgery, and I found them to be quite helpful in relieving stress and coping with the whole ordeal. The ones they provided were by Diane L. Tusek, found at: www.guidedimageryinc.com My favorite is "Guided Imagery for Pre Procedure/Surgery (with nature sounds)". I've played it over and over. You can order them online.
"The Healing Journey", by Emmett Miller, is my favorite. I discovered the cassette tape when I was dealing with cancer two decades ago, and it really helped me to become comfortable with myself.
When I discovered that I needed an AVR, I looked around, and found that the material is now available in CD & MP3. I find it very helpful. I think that it could be particularly useful pre-surgery.
