My Husband Was Just In To Have His Pacemaker Checked. Last Time There Where No A-fibs, This Time He Mentioned That There Were Several Pat's Fast Beat Or Contractions In The Upper Atrium, 1 Lasting 9 Min At About 150. The Rest Were Short Lived But I Think There Where Pretty Many Of Them. The Long One Was At 4;30 A.m The Shorter Ones Were Between 2:30 And 5:30 P.m. Afternoon At His Job. He Did Not Seemed Concerned At The Least But To Us Since This Is Something New We Are A Little Concernd. We Would Appriciate Any Input On This Subject. My Husband Doen Not Notice These He Did Not Recomend That He Se The Cardioligist Or Anything Like That. Pleese Give Us Your Input. Thanks So Much

I'm sorry but I don't really know the answer to your question.

But I do think it's something that it wouldn't hurt to discuss with the cardiologist.

In fact, if it were me, I would want my cardiologist to know what was going on and then he/she could tell me whether it was okay or not.

Hope everything's okay. Take care :) .

Definately say something to his Cardiologist. It may or may not be significant, but adding up all these little things may point to a problem.

Bonzo, They Said His Atrium Is 80% Beating On Its Own And That The Lower Half Is Beating 90% Of The Time On Its Own. The Man WHO Does The Check Was Going To Check With CarDiologist To See If He Could Cut Back The Pacer So That His Heart Would Have More Of A Chance To Work On Its Own And Have The Pacemaker Kick In Only If His Heart Doesn't Do Enough. Did You Ever Hear Of A "pat" That Is What He Called This Thing With His Atrium Taking Off And Going Real Fast. His Pacemaker Is Set For His Highest # To Be 130 So How Could His Atrium Beat At 150 For 9 Min? THE GUY SAID IT ISN'T AS SERIOUS AS A-FIB AND THAT THEY USUALLY DON'T DO ANYTHING FOR IT UNLESS IT WOULD GET REAL BAD THEN THEY MIGHT TRY MEDICINE, OTHER THEN COUMIDIN WHICH HE ALREADY TAKES.

caterb, that is my next Q answered as well.:) If the highest beat allowed by hubbys pacemaker is exceeded then strange things are happening (though not necessarily anything to get very alarmed about). It may be the electric pathways in your husbands heart are on the mend.
Is your cardiologist a pacing specialist, would be my next Q? All cardios have some pacing knowledge, you would though do well to make sure this cardio is an expert.

Pacing

Pacing

Bonzo, The Cardiologist Is A Pacer Specalist And Has Called The Guy Who Does Pacer Checks And Adjsutments The Mad Scientist Because He Is Sooo Good. This Does Give Us Alot Of Confidence In Both Of These Guys. I Guess One Of My Main Questions Is Why Whould This New Thing Just Start To Happen For No Reason?

Did You Ever Hear Of A "pat" That Is What He Called This Thing ...

PAT is probably "paroxysmal atrial tachycardia"

Definition

A period of very rapid and regular heart beats that begins and ends abruptly. The heart rate is usually between 160 and 200 beats per minute. This condition is also known as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia.

Description

The term paroxysmal means that the event begins suddenly, without warning and ends abruptly. Atrial tachycardia means that the upper chambers of the heart are beating abnormally fast. Paroxysmal atrial tachycardia can occur without any heart disease being present. It is usually more annoying than dangerous.

thanks araonj, did you know anyone that had thi. Is it somehow related to avr?

There's a ton of members here who have atrial arrhythmias. They tend to be a very common side effect of AVR.

I would do a search for atrial tachycardia on the forum and in google to learn more about it. I'm not very well versed on the subject, and I don't know anything about pacemakers. Good luck to you and your husband though cater. :)

Thank you Aaron , I was looking up PAT too ,and thought that it may
have been mistaken for PAC or premature atrial complex (or contraction)
In my nursing books there IS no PAT. See how the medical community
likes to change/add/refine acronymns??
Caterb- I knew SOMEONE here would know , you are in the right placr
My Best Wishes-Dina:)
