Its been a short while since I've researched these machines. Is the CoaguChek S a new model? The ROCHE web site says "CoaguChek S not FDA approved for home use in the US."

It is also close to half the price of the other models.

All of the machines can be had for much the same price in the USA - you just have to ask and pay cash money

The machine I use for Chloe is the Coaguchek S - never had any problems with it in 4 years of use! Another case of Europe approving before the US perhaps?

Jim's also got the Coaguchek S - I think it's the only model now available for sale in the UK but don't quote me on that! The local hospital's anti-coag dept also has the Coaguchek S. Jim's had no trouble with it either, his results are always within 0.2-0.3 of the hospital results.

How much???

How much???

I've also had a Coaguchek S for a couple of years here in UK. Having followed the link above to the info in US, I can't believe the price that it is listed at... $1295.00. When I brought mine the UK list price was £399 ($695), at the time it was on offer and I think I paid around £300 for it.
Maybe the "professional" unit comes with several years supply of test strips included... but somehow I doubt it!

Coaguchek S training

Coaguchek S training

I've had a Coaguchek S monitor since January this year and had to be trained by a "professional" in its use. Maybe that's why "Professional" is used in the listing.

My training took place in a hospital and was done by an RN.

It's surprising they are not approved in the US.

As I understand it Coaguchek S has not been approved for patient use in the US. Not sure why. Drs. can purchase it. I trained a doctor a couple of years ago. He is an orthopedic specialist but he bought the S to help his wife who just had an aortic valve replacement. I found the S to be very user friendly and easy to learn. Recently I was commissioned to train a double valve Kurdish diplomat leaving the US to return home to help build the new Iraq. He could only purchase the old "classic" Coaguchek. Its still a very good unit . The training took about two hours and then I had to give him a written test which he passed easily and that made the sale official. Any American who wants one can purchase a "classic" but must go through the training and then they can self test, self dose if they wish, and buy supplies from Tapestry or QAS.
