Hi all following my old post I have got endocsrditis and I'm gutted after a week of chills and sweats the blood tests were positive so I'm back at st georges I'n london this is my second time with this nasty tricky bug I had noticed I felt off for a week or two before the sweats came it appears to have damaged my new aortic from Christmas and sitting on the side of mitral undamaged the plan is ticoplainin as I'm allergic to vancomycin plus frusidic acid it looks like a long hall for now as surgery would be my forth I'm worried to say the least any way il keep you guys posted bye

So sorry to hear you have got this and how stressful it must be for you since you have already had so many ops :(

I was very interested to read you are at St George's. I'm due to have my bicuspid aortic valve replaced either at St George's or at St Anthony's if Bupa will pay - either way it's the same surgeons at both.

Wishing you the very best, I'm sure you are in good hands,
Anne

I'm sorry to hear this. When you complained about being short of breath and then having the fever and chills, I was hoping itt was just a virus or something and not BE. Do you know what bacteria it is? I'm so glad you were checked out when you didn't feel good, so hopefully caught it relatively early. You're in my prayers

Sorry to hear that you are back in St George's, but an excellent hospital and where I would want to be if I got endocarditis again. I was in St George's with my endocarditis under Dr Pumphrey and Mr Smith, then had my surgery in St Anthony's as BUPA paid, then they (BUPA) dumped me a couple of years later!

Sheesh the food in St George's stinks unless they have improved it in six years, the food in St Anthony's was very good Anne.

Hey, I feel for you. I had a scare 2 wks past. Ended up being the flu.

Any ides how you may have contracted the infection? It would be great to hear your theories so we may learn from them.

God speed!

As one who's been there, I am so sorry to hear you are dealing with endocarditis. I ended up going to the hospital 3 times before I had to go in to have my mechanical AV/old graft changed out and my mitral valve repaired from damage due to the staph/endocarditis I got. The docs never figured out how I got it. I hope the drugs they give you work the 1st time around. The drugs I was given worked temporarily, but when I was sent home I got a fever again and the lab results showed my tests had turned from neg to pos. I was given another IV antibiotic, naphcillin, taken off vancomycin, and I took one oral drug, it was rifampin, and that did the trick. But, it had already done the damage to my AV and MV. It was my 3rd surgery.I had never been so sick in my life as I was with bacterial endocarditis. I know how sick you feel, and I'm praying you are on the mend very soon.

Sorry to hear of your recent issue but thank you for posting it.

BAV and TAA replacement for me in early February. Normal healing conditions until lately. I start shivering and it always goes in to an uncontrollable forceful shake. My wife buries me in blankets and it will go away in 15 minutes to one hour. Chest, knees, legs, arms all very sore from clinching. Once calmed, I go into a 103F fever and then it calms down to normal. Three of these today and just had one at 1am (the reason I am up). We need to get back into the doc's office and outline the data (time of day, what I eat, how cold drinks start the process, uncontrollable at night). Is is the blood thinning med combined with sun? I had Dressler's syndrome right out of surgery and that was corrected...is it something to do with that? Regardless, I conduct meetings, travel a lot, and work with clients in business settings and right now, I can't remain stable. Anyone have some advice even though I 'm a Purdue Fan? :)

It's not the "blood thinner". If you feel one of these episodes coming on, I would go to urgent care or an ER. Your doc might want to have blood cultures drawn during an episode.

While the subject is certainly still pertinent, I hope you realize this thread was started a year ago.

Hope you are able to get your fever issues resolved.
Best Wishes.
