My right hand started to swell up about 10 days ago. Then a bruise appeared in the center of my palm just below my middle finder. The swelling got a bit worse and all four of my finders started to get red.

I went to the doctor and he said that I must have bumped the back of my hand somewhere and broke a small vein and that what I was seeing was the result of being on warfarin. I asked him if I should have gone into the hospital, as it happened in the late afternoon and he said that unless there was tingling, real pain or numbness then probably not.

There was no real pain, except when I clenched my hand and it is subsiding.

This has really made me rethink going skiing this year. I am a very aggressive skier so I am thinking what a fall might end up being.

I can see your concerns, I'm new on this med and have the same concerns . I get some nasty bruises while out boating at times, plus I do my own
mechanical work on my diesel motors and all other boat systems.
I'm not gonna give it up, gotta live life but I need to keep this forefront in my mind when making decisions.

Ya I feel your pain. I skied a week in Whistler about 7 weeks post-AVR, while still on warfarin (& metoprolol). My Cardio said I was crazy (because of the Warfarin). My GP said to take it easy, and my surgeon said "No problem, have fun!" I bought a helmet and padded my chest and wore a HR monitor. And took it easy. For my second ski week, I was already off both drugs. I'm keeping the helmet.

downhill skiing has risks, and doing it on ACT adds risks, as does skiing aggressively. There's no great answer, sorry.
