hit the track today and was able to reduce my 2 mile time. it wasn't
exactly my best time ever - that would have been 18 years ago (~12:30)

this was not only my fastest time since avr, but was also faster than
just prior to surgery!

pre-surgery, i was running two miles in around 15:30 while on beta-blockers.
lowered that to 14:55 a few weeks after stopping the bb's altogether (with
doc's permission, of course). this was the day before taking the flight to
india for avr, when my eva was 0.6 cm2.

feeling much better, more energy, more endurance with the new valve,
eva of 2.2 cm2 (if the chinese echo tech is correct).

today's 2-mile time, at just under 4 months post-op, was 14:49.

new valve good.

Not bad at all. I wish I had had the guts to try this much back in the day. I was very tentative for a long time both in training and racing. My best 2 mile was 12:40. The year before my AVR I ran one mile in 6:20 and in subsequent weeks a few half miles at about 2:50 but then sprained an ankle before I could try another mile. I never ran hard again because the next year I was told to stop running until the AVR was done.

It wasn't until 1994 three years after AVR that I ventured on to the track again. I managed a 7:52 mile and 17:10 2 mile. I was 45 by then, fatter, slower, less intense training and still very tentative.

Great to hear these news Chou & such an inspiration for newbies who are having trouble coming to terms with the idea of OHS & the kind of life they can lead afterwards.

Keep on running.......:)
