    Rehab and INR

I know several external changes affect INR. Since I'm learning this game, doesn't exercise lower INR? My INR range is 2.5 - 3.5 Weekly warfarin is 27.5 mg. July 12: INR = 3.1 July 14: started exercises at rehab (rehab 3 days a week and trying to walk at least 30 minutes 2 other days) July...

    Need jury verdict

I picked up my INRatio2 machine from my GP yesterday. Yesterday was my 90th day on warfarin, so now I can call in results. (I'm using the Philips service). While at the doctor's office, my meter was used to test INR - 2.5. I'm the first for the GP to do home testing. NP wants me to test...

Might have found my magic dosage

Whoohoo! My INR today was 2.8. This is the third time in a row my INR has been within range (2.5 - 3.5). The last 3 tests have been 2.6, 2.8, 2.9. My weekly dosage is 27.5 mg using 5 mg tablets (5, 2.5, 5, 2.5, 5, 2.5, 5). Now to wait another 1 1/2 months to get my INRatio2 meter.

    If you need a laugh

If you need a laugh, start reading Lewis Grizzard's "They tore out my heart and stomped that sucker flat." Grizzard was a southern humorists that wrote about his AVR in 1982. It's easy to relate to the same condition (BAV) and procedures, but also makes me glad (because of the medical...

Process of getting a home INR meter

Andy, I saw a recent post where you are applying for a home-testing meter. My AVR was 1 1/2 weeks before yours. I'm starting to check on getting a meter. It may be beneficial for others (and myself) if we post the information we find. I've only checked websites so far, but most tout their...

    Wanting to start home testing

I'm 5 weeks post-op. I would like to start home testing. I've been reading threads on this site, meter manufacturer's sites, and sites for testing services. Based on posts and looking at the INRatio2 and Coaguchek XS, I would like to get the INRatio2. Are most people using a service that...

    Choice of INR Meters

Having valve surgery in 2 weeks. Will get a mech valve if my BAV can't be repaired. If I get a mech valve, I would like to be able to test at home. I will talk to surgeon/cardio if they will sign off to get a meter. Few questions: Is one meter better than another? Do you have to wait...

    BAV repair vs replacement

Of those who have had aortic valve surgery, did the surgeon indicate they would try to save/repair the valve. If the valve was repaired, how long did the repair last before replacement was necessary? My surgeon indicated there is a change to repair my BAV, but he will not know until I'm on the...

Surgery set for April 26 - BAV

After a battle of a bacterial infection, I finally got my surgery date today to address my BAV and aortic aneurysm. Aorta is approx 4.5. Surgeon (Dr. Chen at Emory) said he may be able to repair the valve, otherwise I will more than likely get a St. Jude's. I will have a heart cath and CT the...

    Waiting on surgery date
