4.8cm aneurysm on ascending aorta questions

Mine was at 5 when I had surgery at age 37. I also had no symptoms but they had been monitoring my aorta. As soon as it hit 5 they said it was time. I chose to leave my BAV alone which I am glad I did. They automatically wanted to replace my valve until I started asking questions. I realize...

10 weeks, starting to feel really good!

Alex ... wow! Awesome! For me, I prefer one of the heart rate sensors that you wear across your chest that works with the treadmill. Of course that is because my heart rate is always my issue ... came from cardiac rehab. I have mine set to beep me as soon as my HR hits 170. That is when I...

    I'm "Only" 39, It's "Only" 4.5cm

Hello and welcome!! Just to share my experience. About 3 years ago, my cardio found that I had about a 4.7cm ascending aorta. Like you, he said not to worry that perhaps it had been that large for many years and it just wasn't detected. From there, I got an MRI every 6 months to monitor it...

    Need Sleep

Drugs ... that is the only thing that helped me. Pre-op and for about 2 weeks after I got home also.

    aneurysm 5.1 what to do

I totally respect others feelings on not replacing your valve. That being said, it was the right choice for me to keep my BAV and repair my aneurysm. My BAV is still in very good shape and could last me many decades. According to my cardio and surgeon it would last longer then a tissue valve...

    Heart Rates?

From cardiac rehab, they gave me a maximum HR of 170. I use a heart rate monitor always. I'm pretty sure that I shouldn't have gone above 170 prior to surgery ... I just never paid attention like I do now. The monitor sure is addictive. It boggles my mind how different my HR is from one day...

    aneurysm 5.1 what to do

Hi Danny. Glad you moved it up. As long as you have everything in order ... the sooner the better. Waiting sucks! I am guessing waiting wouldn't have hurt but you never know. For reference, I found out in January I was at 5. My cadio and surgeon said I could wait until after summer if I...

    6 Month Scar Update

Not a flasher just yet ... but I think I show it off more then some are comfortable with. And it is such fun looking for cool y necklaces. I think that they are missing a big market by not advertising things in such a way.

    My Cardiac Rehab

Hi All. I just wanted to share what my experience with cardiac rehab was. I highly encourage everyone that has the opportunity to give it a try. It turns out that I probably did not need the formal rehab. They actually slowed me down from what I was doing prior to the rehab. But it was...

    Surgery done and successful

Kris! SO glad you are feeling better. It all gets better from here on out. And I totally feel for the dry mouth. All I could think about and ask for was water after my surgery. Even after they actually let me have some ... and I got sick. In fact, right now I am realizing how I take for...
