How long does it take to come round from anaesthetic ?

My surgery was about 8am, in ICU about 1pm. I struggled when they tried to take the vent out and was re-sedated. I don't remember that. They did get the vent out about 4pm and I was awake and talking by early that evening.

    Pressure gradient?

I don't remember for certain if the number I had was peek or mean, but the value I do remember, it was 115. Needless to say that was not good and with 10 days of that test I had my procedure.

BAV patients who end up with aortic graph

I got my results the day before thanksgiving and I am in the clear, at least for now. My cardiologist said we will check again in 5 more years. I am relieved but realize another procedure could be in the works down the road. I am hoping to procrastinate long enough so that the technology...

BAV patients who end up with aortic graph

Mbeard.. I was freaking out when I had my diagnosis 5 1/2 years ago. It was my first surgical procedure other than tonsils as a toddler. What helped me was knowing the mortality rate was about 1%. I was 42 at the time and otherwise in pretty good health. The surgery itself went very smooth...

Member Meet-Up At The Cincinnati Heart Mini Running Event

Hi Bill... I am up in Columbus and would love to participate. I've done a 1/2 marathon since my surgery but only do 3 - 5 mile runs these days. I had a 2 year battle with plantare faseitis so long distance runs are off the table. It's the long training runs that triggered it when training...

BAV patients who end up with aortic graph

Hi all... Been a while since I have been on the site but this has always proven to be a tremendous resource when I've had a question or concern. Today I had my 5 year checkup with my cardio. I had a BAV replaced with an ON-X valve. My doc told me all sounds good but he wants me to get an MRI...

How long did it take. . .

it took me a good 3 months to get my digestive system back to normal. Pain medication made me poop cinder blocks, at least so it seemed. Stool softeners did their job eventually but it was probably 3 months before I stopped seeing traces of blood in my stool and feeling I could eat whatever I...

cath today - now I need bypass as well

Don't be pressured. If you want an On-X valve then find a surgeon / hospital that will accomodate you. If you need to fly then so be it. My roomie when I had my AVR was 77 yrs old. He had a triple bypass, valve replacement and a hole in his heart dealt with. When his surgery was completed...

    Terrified of Male Catheters

    3/10/11 Waiting Room

Daiva... Welcome to the site ! I had an AVR 3 yrs ago @ C.C. Dr P was my surgeon and I must say your in excellent hands ! I have met more than a few people on this site who had Dr P and I don't know of anyone who has anything less than overwhelmingly good things to say. I went Mechanical...

    Getting Comfortable Around the House???

Anne... I will let others weigh in on this but IMHO if you get on the floor you ain't gettin back up ! Just sitting up in regular bed was a challenge. You will be amazed to see just how much of your core is involved in getting in and out of a bed. I think that was one of the worst parts of...

    Just Curious.......

I had my surgery at CC also. who is your Surgeon ? If your leaning mechanical then I would ask your surgeon what his/her experience is with that specific valve. On-X valves are supposed to be technically more difficult to install but given that your at CC I wouldn't be concerned with that...

    Mole Removal

mine is on my lower back. I have a few others as well that Im going to have them check but I suppose they will want to lop them off. Im not really worried about bridging but if necessary I will. The only thing I didn't like about bridging to lovenox was the cost ! $55 a dose ! that hurt a...

Decision to Electively do the surgery now.

I decided to get it taken care of right away, I could have waited a few months but I figured if I wait the anxiety was going to just eat away at me. I went from diagnosis to surgery in 15 days and to be honest that about about 10 days too long ! If your life is less complicated now then I...

    Mole Removal

Im going to see a dermatologist on Friday to have a Mole looked at. Odds are he is gonna wanna take it off. Anyone done this before ? Did you have to bridge off of Coumadin ? I did it once before for a dental procedure, not that big of a deal, just more a PIA. Anybody been de-moled on...

Gettin off my lazy butt !

long weekend of heavy drinking + coumadin = ??

I gotta say that I go tilt every once in a while. We go for Mexican food and the next thing I know we are doing Margarita shots at the local watering hole after dinner. I take 40mg a week (6mg 5 days, 5 mg 2 days). If I have a big evening of "celebrating" what I have done is cut my next day...

Gettin off my lazy butt !

OK...Im going to get on the phone with my insurance in the next day or two and document the steps. My wife works for the school district so we have really great coverage so I suspect my insurance will help me out with some of the costs. Currently I go to a clinic once a month which is fine...
